Different people want different GFE experiences. I'll describe two types. Both types should never mention anything controversial except lewds, this is harder to do for westerners. They should also never remind their audience that they are doing it for money, and don't tell your audience how much you hate them for being losers.

Have cool interests outside of games, have an outlook on life where you understand the hardships men face and sympathize with them without ever mentioning it directly. Be surprised that men would enjoy your content and act cuter than usual while you thank them for watching. Occasionally lose the filter and get frustrated or mad at something like a drunk man, but never about anything controversial, only about small things like a game.

They should never openly hate others, especially genmates. They should make lewd jokes or say lewd things as subtly as possible, but it's ok to sometimes draw attention to it. The jokes should never mention any body fluid. They should be so subtle a 10 year old might not pick up on it. This gives the audience some ecchi content but it is classy and tasteful.
Especially, once or twice every week or two, she should be much hornier than usual. This will probably happen natually but it is an essential part of GFE.
They should both show interest in viewers and care about their health. Both types can try to persuade their audience, such as "I'm ending the stream now, and I know it's late in the US, so please try to sleep early tonight, ok?"

The sob story should be as true as possible for the best effect. It's better to exaggerate mental abuse a little bit than completely make up physical abuse. And the backstory should not come up except maybe once in a more intimate time. It is a bit like lore, it affects the character, but unlike lore it is almost never mentioned just like real life.

I think most of the reasons that men find a girl cute or endearing comes down to her mental perspective and what she believes about life. Cute types can be split into more specific types, there are confident idol types and frustrated or not confident "girl next door" types.
Cute visuals will have more bows and frills and light colors, see Aqua or Watame, Rushia. Doesn't matter very much if they have horns, but if they do, they can turn up the horniness a bit more and get away with it. Cute types also sometimes have rounder faces especially in the chin area. I think of GFE in vtubing as something like having a phone call with your gf. The difference is vtubing is public so the "public face" of the girl is on most of the time. Maybe the hornier or sexual asmr type style can come out more when there are fewer viewers or especially in membership streams. Then you could keep the sexy side of the character more exclusive, just like in real life.
Peak GFE for me is, feeling comfortable, finding endearing personality quirks, and they seem cozy enough that you want to tell them all of your insecurities and mistakes. They want to always be with you, that puppy love stuff.
