KR had five waves last year (if you want to count E&C members as a wave) and two this year. There are 20 active members.
EN has had three waves this year. There are 10 active members.
ID and KR both have open auditions but unlike past auditions didn't define a closing date for either one. I wouldn't be surprised if ~20 is close to their ideal number for a foreign branch.

Operating costs for an individual are low so I doubt it has happened. Cutting off a whole branch of low performers after over a year has more good reasons from a financial perspective than cutting of a couple underperformers, they have their fans too and if they're actually active will likely turn a profit or at least mostly pay back initial costs. Who knows, maybe they'll end up catching wind two years in and become big. Hell, Kataribe is still listed as an active liver despite her being a couple grand down the drain without a doubt.

Thwy had 3 members for 14 months with no hope of a new wave, and one of those members was believed to be their own manager who doubled up. A general rule of thumb is that if they're pumping out merch and new members then that branch is seeing profit in some way to justify it. NijiEN have been a massive success for them, and 4 waves were confirmed to be added within 3 months of operation.

People misuse the phrase 'throwing shit at a wall and seeing what sticks' because Nijisanji is just a platform with resources for people to do what they want, when they want. As much as I'd love to use this to question the whole 'Haha Anycolor just throw shit at a wall' autism, the fact of the matter is that it's just how the Hololive hype cycle functions.

Everyone piles in before debut. They watch the debut stream. They watch the first week. Then...that's it. Their viewership only freefalls before steadying below 10K and everything starts to look like a negative.

NijiEN, on the other hand, have a much smaller debut so the dropoff levels out much faster, and in a few cases like Finana and Rosemi their live viewers are actually given the space to go up rather than always going down. They're all inclining slowly but surely, though they'll still take a very long time to incline to even HoloEN's floor overall.

Gura took two one week breaks in July and September, Mori also had a period where she took some breaks from going back home to America. The same goes for the others. Plus, their SCs per stream doesn't decline all that much. Mori, Kiara and Gura still making $800+ per stream. Ina doesn't do SC reading and Ame closes her SC stream ALOT. Not to mention, she closed her SC for days after her anniversary. Meanwhile, nijiEN just stream daily, letting everything on and accumulating SCs.
