There is broad anti-American sentiment in Japan, but it's mostly regarding the military bases in the country in the present as opposed to WW2 these days. I'm a bong that went to Okinawa on holiday 5ish years ago, everyone was on their guard with me until I told them I was a British tourist, then I could immediately see the relief in their faces. Having met quite a few US soldiers there and drank in bars surrounded by them, I couldn't blame the locals for hating them - they were obnoxious idiots at best and lecherous thugs at worst. I even saw an anti-American protest when I visited Ginowan, although as soon as they saw me they pushing my bike in the opposite direction they suddenly got real quiet even though I pretty much agreed with them by that point.

However, even though a lot of the mainlanders also seem to agree with kicking the yank soldiers out of Okinawa, generally I hear the younger ones quite like at least the idea of America due to its cultural ubiquitousness, though like the rest of the world, there are still things the average Jap will laugh at (the prominence of fast food culture, obesity and ultra-capitalism) and find shocking/depressing (the prominence of mass shootings).
