I was listening to vsinger more and more lately and then it kinda dawn on me that: why don't I just listen to the mp3 of the original song lol?
Then the answer I found is that only for vocaloid songs from vsinger is worth listening to as those original usually sucks.

you can cut sections of the video but not add/insert anything. pretty much have upload a whole new video for inserts.
yt used to have annotations that you can use to "fix" simple mistakes with text but they retired that feature. it would look janky even if you fix it with annotations and i assume they want mvs to look polished/professional.

Yea, I would agree with this. Owl and Rat also were nervous out of their minds and didn't sing seriously as a result, so I'd like to hear them doing something that they're taking seriously since Gura has plenty of moments of not sounding as impressive as she can be for similar reasons. I do appreciate Owl's willingness to do unarchived to have a set list she's more comfortable with instead of the Japanese songs.

Apparently Mumei can't belt or be loud where she is, so that cuts out all the best songs. There is also nervousness that makes her timing all messed up.
But other than that, I'd say Mumei sings in a unique but unpolished way. She tends to skip around notes instead of holding them smoothly. By far the most unique part is the nasal-like resonance of her voice.

In my impression, she feels like an untrained IsekaiJoucho.

It wasn't as good as some of the others she's released, especially coming off the trio of Everlasting Soul, ゼロの足跡, and Mayday, but it wasn't bad by any measure either. I didn't like how busy the backing track was at points, and the little breakdown in the middle where it gets simpler shows what it might have been. I also feel like she's trying force too many syllables in at points, which contrasts with the laid back feel of the rest of song. Seems like a solid filler track for the album, which more speaks to how good the rest of her releases have been. The MV and lyrics are cute, and very fitting for her. Sheep has been on fire, and I'm pretty hyped for her Live.

Sounds pretty good, but I don't like how loud the track is relative to her voice during most of the rap parts, but on the singing she's out front and center which is great. It also sounds like her voice gets squished and robbed of it's natural timbre at points when she goes for the big throws at points, but that might be the result of aggressive vocal effects and/or Youtube compression on a pretty busy section. I'd put that up there with Live Again as her best songs as her current self, which is ironic given they're both songs about the story of her current and past incarnations. Track is by pretty patterns, who did great work on both of her remix contests as well as me liking some of their solo composition stuff. Honestly, I hope she takes this as impetus to work more with smaller people who vibe with her style more then big names who she simply looks up to, since I like it far better then any of the 5 she did with Teniwoha.

Love for your oshi will certainly blind you to an extent, but you can both recognize and accept her flaws as well as realize that just because someone's not a top tier singer doesn't mean them singing can't be a good time. I listen to a lot of people, some of whom aren't knockouts, because they're fun and the fun is infectious. She is actually decent (when she doesn't mess up). There is some Leona-like resonance in her voice. And she managed to hold notes in a few parts really well. Though she needs to learn how to breathe more quietly.

To be fair, a lot of vsingers struggle with quiet breathing as well. They usually audibly breathe in right before a long sentence (even Hachi does this). While Chima does a pretty good trick by masking her breath at the end of a long note, such that you almost think it's part of the note. I assume that was part of her opera training.

Well vtubers are mostly catering to otakus.

Think about it, singers want to be on the big stage and what we're getting are mostly rejects. Doesn't necessarily mean they lack talent, someone out there may just be better or the industry cannot / does not want to further saturate their circle.
See Asano Ruri, she never made it big as a 3dpd idol but as an early adopter of the vtuber culture and her skill to back it up she reached what would have remained only a dream if she remained as an idol. Even then, she sticks to the variety formula, doing a bit of everything instead of solely focusing on making music.
When given a chance to be a singer these performers will gladly trade their current status and stop being a vtuber to take a shot as an artist in the real world, some known names being Kudou Chitose, og Cocoa Domyoji, Ema Hazy, Nekonoki Mochi, and Sougetsu Eli.

Livestreaming culture has mostly been about building unhealthy parasocial relationships when talking about vtubers with your oshis and their mental breakdowns. Singing is in contrary to that as it's more concerned with the person's ability to perform. What value does being a mere virtual musician give to an audience aside from a cute moving avatar as opposed to those who use their face or nothing at all? You can enjoy them all tabbed out or check archives without missing much resulting to mediocre live viewers to active viewers chatting ratio and low audience interaction isn't healthy for growth in the current vtuber otaku crowd. Some anons here cannot even tell decade long utaites apart from vsingers, calling them pngtubers and shit and I can't fully blame them on that since a good part of the audience aren't there for visual stimulation but to listen
Add that virtual singers aren't mainstream yet. So yes, EN vsinging is a niche in a niche market. The demand at this point may be non-existent with two views struggling to survive while holonigs pull numbers on their karaoke a few thousand short of Michael Jackson's concerts. 1) Let's face it, most people in real life are not that beautiful. It's also hard to perfect your make-up for streaming. Being a vsinger means you are not limited by your born beauty, allowing ugly singers to compete. Utaites with a static avatar is already halfway to becoming a full vtuber.
2) More quality interactions without fear of identity being exposed. People feel safer and can play a character more easily with the V separation.
3) Being a vtuber comes with more streaming, gaming, and zatsudans, and a bigger vtuber culture. So it feels more vibrant and alive than the past kinds of utaites who only do covers and occassionally stream.
4) Way easier to fans to request songs and do Q&A in real time.

1 and 2 are the most important, and unique to vtubers. 3 and 4 are not unique to vtubers and can be done by any determined streamers, but as a trend, the vsinger industry on average is way more interactive and vibrant than past kinds of singers. In fact, the lines between them are quite blurry, as many real life singers turn to static avatars and then become full vtubers.

It is an early adopters market right now. But eventually more big names will jump into it (like Sony). Like with anything, the barrier to entry and the average skill level will rise in time with competition.

personally, i think we're still early in the vsinger/vtuber era and a lot of them are still trying to be what they couldn't/failed to be.
there are things that are unique to vsingers but i don't see too many of them lean hard on it. VWP is one example of this. Can you do it without the virtual avatars? probably, but you will always have the real people behind the character in the back of your mind when you try to immerse yourself in the story they are weaving. Example of popular attempt at this is the Lady Gaga character or more recently Poppy. there was a specific character setting and story arc that they were trying to tell through their songs and other public activities. but in the end both fell apart because the real person behind the character will have to turn off the persona at some point and celebrity/paparazi culture will

I would also recommend u Ratio if ur looking for power/belting. Listening to her Senbonzakura vs some of the other girls u can def tell she's got a more powerful voice. The faster the song, the more power she tends to put into her singing.

Can't listen to all the covers right now, but she sounds a bit forceful and shouty in the Phony (the worst one is probably the atashi at 0:30) cover which kills some of the complexity of the song. It's a decent cover but it's not going to blow anyone's socks off when covers like this exist

Hmm
Azki - higher chest voice/ comfy range. Not doing / barely doing the mixed voice. Disconnected falsetto. Bad breathing. Weakest singer on this list.

Leona - balanced belting. Smoother chest to falsetto transition than Azki. Narrower comfy/ vocal range than Hachi.

Hachi - similar to Leona balanced belting most of the time. but she's not utilizing her mask, very little nasal/pharyngeal resonance, higher notes sounds very head-ish.

Chima - yawning voice, lowered larynx, Head-dominant belting. Good breathing.

Ratio - chest-dominant belting. Meh breathing and support. Thank you for the find, Anon. I hope she improves.
