How much does being in character or keeping Kayfabe matter to you when it comes to a vtubber?

>> No.10354358

The young bucks are ruining wrestling

>> No.10354453

not a lot

it's a good mood setter for a stream, but i don't expect them to keep it up on all the time.

it's nice to have running gags and stuff that are in character to help keep it going.

>> No.10354466

Always. To be more precise, it matters that chuuba knows when to be strict or loose with the kayfabe.

Not really. But if they want to do Kayfabe, I prefer they fully committed to it like Mayuzumi.

It depends on the character, its obviously a lot easier to pretend to be a JK, a teacher or a programmer than it is to pretend to be a dragon.
I think in general the more realistic aspects of the character should be maintained.

Not much, since I know the kayfabe is fake.
Very few vtuber can keep up the kayfabe and I respect them for it, but it doesn't really make a difference.

The character and backstory are meant to help build a foundation of inside jokes and culture around the specific vtuber at the debut. How much they want to lean on it after they get comfortable with the gig is up to them. I see it as a something they can use to fall back on if they can't think of anything in a moment where they feel the need to be filling dead air.

There's a full summary somewhere in the archives but his lore is an orphan hacker under the tutelage of his sensei, over the last 2 years he investigated some Nijisanji virus related to streaming that also involved other people (as in they joined along with his lore for over a year with original characters included even), to the point where even outfit reveals and 3D was lore related, until one day he realized he's actually a virtual person. Sometime later after this sensei showed up and said cryptic shit about his existance, he held a poll whether to join the guy and enter the real world, or delete him and stay in the virtual world, and his fans picked delete, and Mayuzumi got corrupted. Then he went on a long break. Then he posted some ARG to find coordinates in Japan. Then he had that billboard event (that video) across 2 or 3 cities (those girls in the front are idols from Iwanaga's project he started after leaving Nijisanji) where he wondered about the virtual world and the real world complete with a new outfit designed by K-SUWABE. He held a poll to ask whether Mayuzumi should be rebuilt or to send him off to reality and fans voted 5050. Then he came back with a white version of his corrupted version.

It's whatever you make it. Some people dawn an avatar with the full premise and intention of having a "character" while others simply indulge it for the appearance. Personally, I could care less as I don't always enjoy it considering how saturated it feels to watch countless western women pretend they're some otherworldly 2D anime character that definitely didn't come home from their wage job at Walmart to stream. I do understand going under a new identity is the point of the entire virtual avatar tho so a backstory, character description and a lil RP here and there usually don't bother me at all

Vtubing has yet to show any real innovation, beyond cute anime girls.

Dont tell me bullshit like some guy with a dog, acting like a dog on camera or some bullshit. Nothing creative at all about that, besides some flashy tech and then being a streamer.

The only vtubing that makes sense right now, is one thing. Anime girls streaming. That's the catch, that's what people like to see. EN Vtubing, especially myth, completely succeeded with this.

Its been done to death in japan, but we had no catering to this desire to see a livestreaming anime girl play games, only translated clips such as miko saying the nword that got viral, because of how genuinely like an anime-girl she was. It was convincing.

Not a jpeg, or some normal japanese woman talking, but a genuinely cute, sonorous, pleasant voice cliche anime girl saying 'nig~gaaa'

That's where the real subs come in.

Gura behaves unbelievably like an anime girl, its hard to believe she isnt one. Same with Korone, Pekora, Rushia, Mori and despite the drop off from this level, Ame, Ina, and Kiara when behave like cute, or dommy, or tough, or submissive anime girls. Cheery, laughy, emotional, or cool, thats the real act.

This is the 'kayfabe'. the illusion is that they need to keep pretending or being an anime girl for an hour or however long they stream. Being bored or silent, and slipping into acting like a normal unassuming human habits is what breaks the illusion.

I have to give it to Myth for their incredible work in this, once you realise. The absolute lack of moments of acting like a normal person for even a minute on stream.

Not sure of the whole logistics but there was a big exposition at the end of her 3D stream, where it showed her (lore) mom being sick, her dad working on something, Uiha holding a doll, then she gets in a car accident and some soul transferring business happens, and it's the explanation for her doll outfit named Mia. So the Aiba Uiha genki idol we know is actually a dream version of Uiha.

basically if you think kayfabe doesnt matter, you obviously misunderstand what the kayfabe is.

Just like WWE needs jacked roided guys to pretend they hate each other, hololive needs naturally cute, nice-voice girls who need to be anime girls for a couple hours

Not everyone is cut for the big leagues.

Ok, but for JP, literally only people who don't understand Japanese think they're anime. They don't sound like anime. Even the ones with weird voices or moe voices don't sound like anime. the subs who think of them as anime girls, which you refer to as the "real subs", are the ones that barely watch. gachi-koi and dedicated fans don't think of them as anime girls. most of the keyfabe, besides particular vtubers who play characters different from the normal selves, is typically just exaggerated versions of their normal personality and normal weird parts. Like it's more they're entertainers and the important part is to keep up the entertaining act occasionally. The only ones where keeping up real kayfabe matters are the ones who have kayfabe completely different to their normal selves. The people who just act themselves, the kayfabe doesn't matter, being entertaining just matters, and all the kayfabe was is just what normal streamers do. be slightly more entertaining on stream than in their normal lives. Only people who watch too little care about actual kayfabe.

ill concede for JP bros, it probably doesnt mean anything, but also think its a weak rrat, because I KNOW that JP bros find Rushia, and Pekora incredibly cute, and have called them cute anime girls.

anyway I dont actually know the JP taste of vtubers, so take the W.

But I DO KNOW, for the west, the appetite is for real life anime girls streaming, made possible with talented cute voices behind flashy vr tech, to make this dream a reality.

The kayfabe, is feeding this appetite as your job role.

its not hard for a jacked guy to pretend he wants to kill other jacked guy in the ring on saturday night, all he has to do is announce he will kill that guy this saturday night, in front of the crowd, and then walk off set.

Similarly, its not hard for an already incredibly cute voiced girl, with cutesy behaviour and hobbies, or a otaku girl with a mommy voice, to put on some digital tits, and stand behind a cute mommy avatar, and start seducing male viewers.

This is the kayfabe at heart. I know its not seen as kayfabe, and some kayfabe can go to mad levels of immersion, but its the same as wwe hiring the newest wwe superfan who is also mega jacked and loves the genre, to play as the newest entree to the wwe lore.

HoloEN was a direct gourmet dinner to the appetite we had of cute anime girls in english.

You guys are mistaking character lore for the fact that they're using animated models, everyone refers to them as anime characters or 2.5D but not all of them have character lore or stick to it. Simply being anime isn't kayfabe because they still talk about family life and home life and real life events.

How does that make it not-anime? Anime girls do nothing BUT talk about their fuckin life.

It is kayfabe.
It isn't kayfabe, when they
>act tired, burp, fart, get offended, make viewing unpleasant in any way
they are selling themselves as anime girls. It is the core kayfabe.
