1. Cost of Goods
2. Shipping costs are completely wasted and don't go to the talent at all

I had a bit of an epiphany recently regarding why the suits and management of Hololive are all beggars, right up until the topmost levels including Yagoo.

The homos (JP) were basically debuted with little fanfare, and immediately caught the attention of nijifags who had an "in" to divide the fanbase. But there were plenty of worried holofans wondering if Cover were gonna go the niji route of mixed interactions as well.
So seeing that, Yagoo and upper management basically told all the Hololive girls to not mention the homos on stream or promote them, since even if they wanted to push the new male branch, they didn't want to do it at the cost of ruining their main moneymaker.
But the side-effect of such shunning was that other companies just didn't understand how to interact with them. i.e. The Hololive collab ban turned the homos into industry-wide pariahs. This was public, a lot of indies, nijis and small corpos at the time publicly said that they didn't know what to make of the homos, so they just didn't bother with collabs etc. That's how the entire branch STARTED their career.

Of course, within just 4 months Cover realized their mistake and removed that restriction. Fubuki, Sora, Matsuri and a lot of the other girls naturally tried to shill them and push them (basically, normalizing their presence in the industry enough for them to find collab partners of their own). Natural saviorfag tendencies. And nowadays they have their own space in the industry, most people are at least aware of them, so they don't feel the need to push them as much.
Some other girls of course didn't give them the time of day because they also saw that fans were worried about too many mixed collabs ruining the Hololive atmosphere.

But I think what happened with that ban left a scar on management and Yagoo. This was Yagoo's first venture that was NOT really built up by the girls, and it failed so spectacularly because it was separated from the girls. This would obviously be a huge "what if?" in their heads.

And this is where Omega's poisonous whisper came in, and caused the entirety of the Tempus saga.
ERB is likely a last resort type of thing to see whether someone like that could be successful. And I don't think Raora getting in was a coincidence either. Similar to ReGloss, they were expected to prop up the homos. Both failed terribly in that regard.
I wonder how long it will take for them to let go of the trauma of that event...

If you have $100 to spend and you're choosing between an SC or merch you need to take into account you can only spend around $80 on the actual merch because of the shipping cost. Then lets say there's a fuckhuge 800% markup and the cost of the goods sold for $80 is only $10 to Cover. That's $70 split 50/50 between Cover and the talent which is exactly the same as the 35% cut of an SC they would get.

I explained in that same post that that explanation makes no sense, because the entire company is pivoting to units and has been for over a year now, they're very explicit about it. HoloSummer last year was entirely themed around units, and new gens are clearly being coached to act as units (the emphasis on weekly collabs and such). DEV_IS isn't doing anything that any other branch isn't doing which means their only real effect is to debuff the fuck out of numbers for no reason
