Have you ever heard of the rubber hand illusion? I think it's something like this why chuubas stick with something similar after graduation, same as Rushia did. The model blinks when you do, moves when you do. It's not really strange to assume it becomes some part of your self image and it feeling off when you suddenly go back to a model that deviates severely from one you've piloted for years.

I think its matching a face I knew to a voice I know. With the other model something always felt missing, and this new one feels more like how she "should look." I think it literally comes down to monkey brain expects that voice to look a certain way and there's an issue when it doesn't.

Of course the real answer is probably that because niji makes the talents pay for everything, Selen was paying for this model when she heroed. And then when she came back, she paid the artist and rigger to slap a different paint scheme on the thing and roll it out. The artist even lost contact with Selen and went on Twitter to ask where she was. (Please forgive, I can never remember her mama's name)

I'm not a fan of the new design either, but a large part of her fans are the same as when she is Selen (and another part would prefer it just for the memes). They are going to prefer seeing "Selen back" in a sense, so Doki's going to respond to their wishes as well. She's an entertainer, so the opinions of her fans are going to matter to her in the end.
