They indirectly save my life. My shoulder was injured and I got fired from my job. Lock down came And I sit at home waiting for landlord to kick me out. Then I discovered Mikoti, addicted to her, search for fan arts and happened to know I can earn money by drawing.I bought an old drawing tablet that cost 35$ and started drawing. For now I earn enough to pay rent and eat cheap food but I survive and have fun.

They made me realize that I'm not okay with being alone, which hurt at first, but is a good thing in the long term.

I had resigned myself to thinking there is no one out there who's company I would enjoy, as a life partner or even just a friend. I stared watching vtubers because I thought their antics were funny and their cute avatars make them very inoffensive to the eye, but after a while my heart started to change. The degree of separation provided by an anime avatar made it possible for me to set aside my usual presuppositions about having feelings or caring for another living person. Over time my bitterness started to fade because now I understand. The girls we watch are playing a character, but anyone who has ever played a character even for a game knows that you put something of yourself into it, so it's not too crazy to say we still know something about their personalities. What they like, how they feel about things, what makes them laugh and what makes them cry. Every person is like an iceberg where we can only see the top, and with a character you're essentially seeing that top bit with a heavy filter on it; though, in spite of that I'd like to think I'm the type of guy who can get a decent idea what type of fire is burning when he smells smoke. She has so much heart and when I see it I can't help but love her. It doesn't even have to be my oshi. Any one of us probably has hoards of people out there who would be a great romantic partner, it's just a matter of meeting them and managing to make the connection.

I've been doing so much more for myself than I used to. If you've given up on socialization and romance there's no reason to do your self care reps, but now I have at least a little bit of a fuck to give.

...and since I've already blogposted so goddamn hard, here's the moment when my old, cold, bitter heart cracked open and became soft again.

Not the anon you were replying to, but I'll field this one. Germany is one of the most central countries in Europe. A lot of international business and government is conducted in German. If you want to learn a language for just general usage on a global scale, German is probably your third best choice after English and Chinese.

...and Chinese is abstract as all fuck to English speakers so if you don't feel like squaring up against like 7-10k hours for fluency. Seriously. Tones? Voices? I literally can not fucking hear them, not to save my life.

A piece of advice I've heard a few times from people who can speak multiple languages is that German is a great starter for a would-be polyglot. Apparently German language resources are far superior to English, I have no idea why this is. French is apparently a close runner up.
And as >>938336 mentioned it's something of a lingua franca within Europe.

This. It's probably a bit harder to learn as an English native than Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or Dutch. Maybe France is better for intercontinental business, I don't know. But there are more than 200 million German speakers in Europe and muh commerce means it's relevant in business, besides certain parts of industry are filled with G*rms.

I hope you know that I didn't mean it. Your parents loved you and probably still do. This is a nice board.

>> No.938670

>>938445
I dunno about the resources in German, but it wouldn't surprise me just because of how central they are. I can definitely vouch for French being a worthwhile time investment, though. Je parle francais un peu, and it definitely makes the transition to understanding other romance languages a lot easier for a native English speaker. I'm often surprised at how much I catch when someone is speaking Italian or Spanish.

I used to be so pissed off and read shittons of shit on 4chan specifically to piss myself off and visit boards I hated and sites I despised.
Then I started watching vtubers and clips more than I visited videos that made me upset, and I'm overall a lot happier. It got me out of some pretty nasty social media ruts, and instead focused my attention to something that at least doesn't leave me in bouts of anger.

Maybe it's unhealthy. I don't care, going to twitter was unhealthier.

Made me remember women are fun to have around and not just sex objects, I had grown bitter after relationship failures and denying me the chance to build any kind of friendship with the opposite sex. I know a real woman wouldn't be cute and cheerful all the time, and usually they're more trouble than they're worth, but for those great moments when they're good I think I can suffer with reality again before going full monk again.

I work out, I'm studying to be an engineer, I'm forcing myself to be around people who I'd otherwise avoid an attempt to become authentically sociable.

I know that if I do all of this life will get better, but sometimes I just can't muster the will to do it, progress is slow, or there's a setback. Sometimes I doubt myself and begin to feel stagnant.
And no matter how much I remind myself of the pointlessness of my doubts, they persist, so as I struggle on, unable to feel certain that what I'm doing is helpful rather than merely distracting.

And Hololive just makes me smile somehow, so I listen to Hololive songs as I study, workout or commute intermixed with podcasts on philosophy, economics, geopolitics e.c.t.
And that effect Hololive has on me is sort of a like a proxy for an uplifting friend I wish I had. (Not friendless, but I have too few very uplifting relationships with friends that I see consistently).

Not a simp though.

Got me interested in dating again. My previous attempts were horrific and lackluster, in that order. The first one was both of us being terrible for each other and the second was amicable. After that, I spent a few years enjoying being single, not thinking I'd go back any time soon.
Vtubers have me reevaluating that. It could be fun, especially if I can find someone who isn't a total normie this time.
