They speak simple japanese and you can use the internet to look up the words and slowly gain a simple understanding of japanese.

Eventually, through this kind of immersion, especially if aided by using stuff like duolingo and not-anki, you will learn Japanese at an N5 spoken level. Then, you could take it seriously and learn the kana, kanji, and read Japanese.

Eventually you could get to N1, which would get you about a fifth of the way to a fast-track to immigrating to Japan. This would normally be considered a good thing on an anime website like 4channel.org (4chan.org + nel).
