A big mistake. It's a mistake for Phase to have ever brought in JP vtubers. It's deliberate malpractice to have expanded their numbers with a new JP gen.
Vshojo is not a JP company, so it's a mistake to waste time and effort and resources on a JP branch.
Same thing happening with HoloEN where they're leaning more and more into the Japanese side of things, forgetting they are EN.
People just don't seem to want to stay in their lanes and play to their strengths for some reason.

There's some reason to believe that they are looking for JOPs and possibly ones that stream on YouTube. Sushidog was rejected despite being able to speak native level Japanese and English, streams on Twitch, is an artist with a cute voice, is a 3view, gets along with and is liked by VShojo's English members, and has been intensely loyal to VShojo for many years. If they were looking for JPs that get along with EN members on Twitch it would be difficult to find a better candidate. Also some people suspect that Rica hasn't gotten a Live2D model yet because she's waiting to join.

....well in any case, her Cover contract doesn't prohibit her from doing indie vtuber activities or indie-vtuber-adjacent activities, so the presence or enforceability of any non-compete clauses in her contract is irrelevant. The only way it can become an issue is if she's still technically employed by Cover but tries to join another agency anyway - the FTC rule prevents companies from stopping people who leave the company from joining a direct competitor, but it doesn't prevent companies from stopping current employees from concurrently working for a competitor.

The ban on non-compete clauses doesn't prohibit McDonald's from firing a worker for moonlighting at Burger King, for instance.
