The brutal truth is that "your own website" types have overwhelmingly gravitated towards Reddit and Discord, with a smattering of weirdos stubbornly sticking to...4chan. Reddit's taken the place of public forums, Discord's replaced private forums, and 4chan's still the anonymous public forum, but the core draw to all three is that it centralizes a ton of communities and creates a social media platform of forums.
Then there's WhatsApp/Line/etc., but those are just evolutions of AOL/MSN/IRC, and I'd consider Discord's position to be more forum-like than chatroom-like, considering how communities and companies tend to use them.

But back to the original point - artists across the planet have overwhelmingly drifted towards Twitter for much the same reason. There is a massive difference between someone scraping your art (illegally) and having to admit legal usage rights to another company.
For a hypothetical (extreme) exampe, lets say SOMEONE is paid for drawing anime girls for gatcha games.
The ownership of the drawings and usually the concept or design will be owned by the gatcha company, and they are the only ones who are (legally) allowed to produce merch of said designs (granted, they would rarely if ever enforce this ownership, but they theoretically can).
Handing over permission for an AI to freely use the designs puts these ownerships into further question, since the AI could easily create a legally distinct design that is nearly exactly the same to the human eye, and the owner of the AI could freely monetize it.
