I'm surprised people place coco so highly. I like her and watch her streams when I can, but her design hurts me. Purple and orange dont feel like they work very well and she has too many colors going on. Also dislike the broach design entirely. I adore tiddy windows, but dont feel it works with her top. Might work better if she opened up the collar/took the entire top half off and left the top of her boobs bare? Dont know. Not too sure about the skirt window either, since I feel it could be done better, but cant picture it. Her horns bother me a little too, although its mostly the striped ribbon over anything else. It just feels like a lot of mismatching design elements here and there.

Kiara and Iofi aren't humans either. That tier is specifically for designs that are so poorly done that they deserve a full redesign. The ones in D and C are the humans that I just personally don't like, along with some non-humans. Though Mel and Polka and Nene are some of my favorite personalities their designs are just ok. At least Mel got her newer long hair version which is great and Nene got her redesign which is totally an improvement.

I guess I should clarify that I dislike humans and bad designs, not just exclusively humans.

I would do a whole writeup, but I think I really liked designs that are easily recognizable and understood by fanartists, deliberate enough to be distinct, and not too busy.
Why can't they just make characters with good focus points? Ollie has the ribbon, Towa has the cap, Suisei has the gloves, etc.

My opinion ranking, not objective. I also tried to think about how well the design accomplishes what it's trying to achieve (see gura in s tier).

Noticed that in general newer designes where a lot cleaner/nicer to my tastes, hence the bias for the newer gens and EN/ID somewhat. With many exceptions ofc.

Kiara looks about as good as either of them without the hats and the sword/shield imo. With a good enough new years outfit she'd probably go a tier above them honestly. She has a better balance face-wise and a wider range of expressions so she has more raw potential to tap into with her design.

Its because the top and bottom halves of her deisgn are super mismatched. The bottom half has some actual amazing design elements that dont carry over to the top half at all. Or you could go for the reverse too.
Like, the bottom half is form fitting, sleek, straight lines, a seperation of black and white into neat sections. the top half has muddy camo colors in a camo pattern that doesnt match the design on her not-pants, her jacket is not formed to her body, and overall is bulky. its two different design philosophies. Her other hoodie actually works better due to being one color and the camo pattern only being used as an accent and being inverse to the gap on her tihghs, but only marginally better.
Her new years outfit is amazing though.
Mainly just need a way to redo the top so it fuctions better in relation to her design. Maybe just straight up leave the middle open and tie it together using the straps so theres a negative space in the middle where skin is shown in contrast to the thighs and removal of the camo. I dont know really.
