Look, for most games you want US voice acting because you want an American accent as the default, right? But US voice acting has got cartel'd down by publishers into a tiny industry that pays absolute peanuts. This tiny industry that pays peanuts is then further regulated by an actors' union based out of California, which gatekeeps jobs with an iron fist if you don't belong to it, pay its dues, and follow its nepotistic pecking order. So an aspiring voice actor in the US has to look forward to paying union dues, getting little work, being paid peanuts, and having to show gratitude for it by sucking micro-celebrity dick. There is zero incentive for quality.

For the past decade game devs have slowly wised up to this, which is why you now see several large titles (like Fromsoft ones) use British voice talent, since it's cheaper and better. But this has been a slow process and dubbing for anime and anime games is still firmly in the slimy claws of the US clique.

Many early days of VAs not trying hard and producing dog shit quality. Its not all bad, some anime stand out head and shoulders ahead of japanese dubs. On top of that, primary exposure to Japanese dub made it a default choice for character voice. So when english dub comes out a year or so later, no emotional attachment to the voice and are seen as alternative/secondary voice rather than true voice. On top of that, English VAs/translators can put in political messages in their work which pisses off people.
