It's too early to say just from notes, but I think most of the changes were good! Ferry changes are iffy so we'll see how that plays out, I'm sad about the Cag changes but I don't think they're massive nerfs whatsoever. The Grimnir nerfs make me sad because I don't think he deserved it. Nier's reign HOPEFULLY is over. Gonna launch the game now to see how it is. I'm definitely more hopeful than I was before

NTA and it's early obviously but I'd say the patch is good. It gave more fun stuff to characters and more options, but still managed to bring the average damage down (something that I like personally) and it was kind of a problem before because U skills starters did a shit ton. 66L got nerfed again (I still think it would be better if that thing had like 10f of startup honestly), the 2L > f.L > RSRCx3 got nerfed, stupid stuff like the BC wars exists but overall I'd say it was a good patch.
Obviously Cygames is dogshit at marketing the game (imagine if they made everyone but the DLC characters free for this week's rotation) and the patch is kinda too late at this point (as in people moved on already, this patch should've been the feb patch), but if you liked the game before I'd say it's better now. This is my opinion and I'm not a good player so take it with a pinch of salt.

PT was exclusively a disadvantage so I don’t count it, and if GnW’s 9 or ROB’s laser are acceptable, KO punch is fine too, though Robin’s stamina pushes it a bit
What I’m getting at are mechanics that fundamentally don’t belong in smash because the game isn’t designed to handle them. Stuff like witch time and minecraft blocks and arms. Gimmicks aren’t bad design on their own, they’re bad when they break the rules of the game in a way that doesn’t have a real counterplay, like giving someone completely safe and noncommittal edgeguards that you can’t even reflect or hit. Like you’re playing checkers and your opponent suddenly plonks a chess queen on the board and you have to play against it

tl;dr
>there are three types of play: preemptive, reactive, and offensive, which function in a rock-paper-scissors style

>preemptive play is pressing buttons in neutral to have hitboxes out in case your opponent runs at you, meaning it beats offensive play
>reactive play is waiting for your opponent to do something or baiting it out, and then punishing it, like whiff punishes, which beats preemptive play
>offensive play is unga bunga me run at opponent and force them to deal with it, which beats reactive play because they don't get time to see what you're doing first

>broadcasting that you're doing one of these three playstyles will prompt your opponent to shift into the appropriaate responding style, and you can exploit this shift
>spamming fireballs will cause your opponent to try to jump over them, so you feign a preemptive approach (the fireballs) to bait your opponent into your reactive anti-air

it becomes easier to predict what your opponent is trying to do when you categorize it this way. if they're standing on the other side of the screen, not doing anything committal, it probably means they're looking to bait you in and react to whatever you approach with. what exactly they'll try to hit you with depends on the character, but it's easier to predict your opponent when you narrow down the range of what they might be trying to do into things that fit these categories.
