How do we save her?

I had an external SSD with all my steam games and some art projects die a few days ago too. Is it just me, or are SSDs stupidly fragile/prone to failure?

good read on SSD vs HDD storage mtbf : https://www.enterprisestorageforum.com/hardware/mean-time-between-failure-ssd-vs-hdd/
>A simple summary is that flash drives experience significantly lower replacement rates than hard drives. However, flash drives experience significantly higher rates of uncorrectable errors than hard drives. This can mean the potential loss of data, so steps should be taken to ensure no loss of data.

>>83230312
basically, hard drives fail more commonly from age but also fail gradually an in a way that can be predicted and detected ahead of time.
SSDs fail less often but when they do you just wake up one day and they've completely shit the bed and all your data is gone.

SSDs fail if you leave your computer off for a long period of time and the SSD loses the electrical charge that helps save your data.

Some SSDs may corrupt your data in cases of a sudden reboot, and also have a writing limit, while HDs don't have a writing limit, although being slower and more fragile to handle. I have seen some really bad SSDs that won't last, and some SSDs that last a good amount of time and are reliable, there's a constant discussion for that out here.

In Biboo's case, it seems she still may be able to recover her data given her situation, though only a diagnosis tool scan can find out. Hoping for the best.

Someone tell the rock about Western digital black Nvmes

I was forced to buy a 1tb one from best buy a few years ago when my wd blue hdd fucked itself somehow, and they just had no hdds in the store, I picked that thing up, and Ive had it since like...2016 and it still fucking works.

I used to think ssds weren't reliable as hdds, but this thing is not showing any sign of wear or tear after like 8 years of use.

You just cant cheap out on them and get the 3 dollar chink off brand ones in like 128mbs of size as a boot disk or some shit like people used to do, those bitches will explode after a week.

I bought a prebuilt. 4 years old and still works as good as it did brand new. This myth that they cheap out on parts is just that; a myth. Just buy from a reputable place. Some parts are just bad from the get-go and it happens. Happened with a friend of mine who built his own PC; both the SSD and the 3070 Ti just didn't work at all so he had to buy a new SSD right away and then play with integrated graphics until he could afford a new graphics card. Building your own isn't always that great either.
The only reason to not buy a prebuilt is if you want specific parts that prebuilts don't offer, that's it. And you can always upgrade later.

>> No.83237301

Remember to buy ssd that have physical dram, they have a better track record at not having horrible data loss due to using said ram as cache. No, ssd that use part of the ssd as cache arent as good for this.

They're insanely fast compared to an HDD. Literally orders of magnitude faster. An SSD can read/write in two seconds what would take an HDD several minutes.
The ideal is to use both; your OS, programs, games, files you're actively working with, etc. all on an SSD, and all your data stored on an HDD. Just make sure to regularly back up anything important and you're good.

People should just be paying for something like Backblaze. It's not even very expensive if you earn any money whatsoever from your computer, and your get continuous backup in realtime without having to manage it yourself, test your backups periodically to make sure they work, or risk losing your backup drive because you've kept it in the same place as your computer and they both got fucked at the same time. The fact these people probably have thousands of dollars of commissioned stuff stored on their PC without any backups is insane to me, but I guess most people just don't know any better.
