Yeah makes sense. Back in the noughties when editing and technology just wasn't there yet AMVs forcibly had a scrappy homemade feel to them. Now anyone can make professional quality stuff with enough editing practice.
Maybe a little different with cosplay, that's changed more that it's just more popular now. Can get materials and guides easier for really high effort stuff, although some costumes go crazy with electronics too that wouldn't have been feasible or even possible 20 years ago.
