ANYCOLOR ARISES
Anycolor closes out the at 2217 yen (37) for the night. A slight decline despite their best efforts after lunch, but Anycolor still remains 52 in the red this week overall. Overall a above average performance for them compared to the NIKKEI, but the question remains on where they'll settle.

COVER DOWN FOR THE COUNT
Cover buckles under the weight as they head to 1700 yen (-62) for the night. Flipping them from a 25 gain this week to a 37 yen loss for this week. Potentially going down due to Minato Aqua's graduation, as well as their Q1 report coming up in less than 24 hours.

Not disagreeing with you on the rest of that, but no, I spent all night making a dozen consecutive containment threads when that happened, and at least half of them were out-pacing /lig/. A followup announcement was made for the idol acquisition by Brave Group and announced who would stay and leave. So it's mostly a change in the guard, with most of the oldest leaving or already gone. Aside from Nikki, the newest are the Gen2 girls who debuted in June of 2023. Meica05 probably has it the worst off, as she gained practically nothing, was a corpo for all of two seconds, and now owes some corpo she never worked for money for a whole year.

I'd be interested in the economics of IP transfer arrangements if anyone knows of other chuubas who have talked publicly about them. I know other small companies have offered buyouts, but I had always assumed that that was a due on delivery type of thing, and that the companies didn't offer financing arrangements. Depending on the chuuba's revenue I'd imagine a revenue sharing agreement would probably be more favorable than a financed purchase. And there's the hack of streaming on your pl exclusively for a year until the term of the agreement ends, assuming it doesn't have a minimum revenue condition.
I guess we'll see whether the ex-idol girls view it as a good deal or not by whether they actually use their idol IP.

For most companies in VTubing, especially small ones, they're interesting in immediate return on investment. If they're losing a money-maker--a whole IP--then they either want it gone or want money for it. Brave, on the other hand, has stores of cash, and doesn't need that immediate return. Because of this, they have the ability to let the idol members leave, with their respective IPs, and allow for a financing plan. It's also a good investment, as a show of goodwill from idol (a company long played by duplicitous, dissembling management which can never be trusted).
As for the "hack of streaming," the statement in the announcement doesn't say that the percentage cut is from IP-related activities--it's just any activities. The price you pay for getting to keep your IP *at all* is a cut out of your next year's earnings *from any source* (although presumably limited to VTubing). I definitely think that for some of them--Rin in particular--a pure buyout wouldn't be ruinous, but even for her a long-term agreement is probably more convenient. I also don't see how it would be worth the effort to stream without any connection to your PL or PL IP for a year, it's just too high a cost.

Anycolor continues to rise as they settle at 2276 yen (59) for the night. Pretty decent overall though we'll have to see if Hex's graduation potentially causes a hitch tomorrow.

COVER Q1 REPORT
Cover's Q1 report has dropped, to save time and to remove needless corporate speak I'll be posting just Highlights below, however I encourage everyone to expand their horizons and read the full presentation, which I'll leave at the bottom of this post.

HIGHLIGHTS
>Revenue is up by 24.8% YoY, with them 44.8% of the way through their "First-Half" earnings Forecast.
>Gross and Marginal profit are up significantly, but most importantly Net Profit has gone down -0.2% YoY.
>The ratio between revenue and expenses spiked due to hiring employees (509 vs 570 comparing 2024 Q4 to 2025 Q1) and "expansion of content production capacities"
>General plans to expand in content, sales, and events.
>The TCG will go on sale in September (pre-orders are reportedly progressing well
>Streaming saw a 20% growth YoY, with Merchandising, Events and Licensing seeing between 40-60~% Increases.

Overall a pretty meh quarter which should be expected since it was a rather dry period. Cover has been technically making more money, the increase in expenses and therefore lack of increase in Net and Operating profit will definitely spook short term investors. I would not be surprised if we saw people selling out tomorrow.
Still, outside of a pure shareholder's mindset Cover for the most part is doing okay. If I had to guess from the increased expenses, they're using the down time to prepare for various things like the US base.

They're not getting charged for work after the fact, this is just a "payment plan" model (as mentioned in the contemporaneous discussion above) for the purchase of the IP from idol. The normal practice (in business in general) would be for the VTubers to buy their IP from idol when they leave in November--that is, buy it outright, paying the company all of the cost all at once. Rather than give them this financial burden, Brave has chosen to instead work out an agreement so that they'll take a cut of the soon-to-be-independent VTubers' earnings for a year in place of a one-time buy-out of IP rights. You're right that morally, it's not that fair since the girls earned it but that isn't how the industry works. The situation also is still rare, very few corpos will do this especially JP ones where it doesn't register as a concern. Like when Star Ring closed their doors, for instance, none of the IP was given to the talents at all and all the channels and videos were taken down effectively. Given the options were probably pay up for the IP with revenue share plan, lump sum, or lose it entirely, this is the best way forward for everyone involved although I know specifically Fuyo has a weird plan trying to not stream on Fuyo and graduating the character and then in the future after the revenue share expires using her again which is dumb IMO but everyone has their own mind and opinion on this and we're only privvy to the outcome and not the process that brought the talents that were leaving to pursue this plan.

Anycolor stocks feel the heat of Cover's misfortunes as they sink down to 2204 yen (-72) for their weekly price. It seems with Cover's help Anycolor may stick to the 2100-2300 range from here on out, though we'll need to see how next week plays out to be certain on that statement.

COVER IMPLODES
Cover's first day after the report is a unmitigated disaster, as they head home defeated at 1527 yen (-210) for their final price. If there's any solace of good news, the weekend is here to slowdown the momentum, and they did stabilize for the most part. The question remains on if and how they'll rise back however.
