The trend is dying in the west but in japan they are as strong as ever. My oshi is doing better numbers than ever. I am happy. Never had any interest in EN. the new gen will dilute what interest is left and holoen and niji en will fight for the eop scraps.

Why are nutsagis like this?

While I think it's a stretch to say it's dying, I would say I believe a lot of Hololive fans viewed it as one of their "flavor of the month waifu" type deals. Like Nagatoro, Jafy, Uzaki, all pumped and dumped already by people more interested in porn than content. To those people, Pekora and Gura were just "waifus" and nothing more. When the next big thing comes along with sexy anime girls they'll jump onto that too.

Gen 2 coming soon will reignite interest

If Hololive is declining it's only because they let it decline, not from lack of interest in vtubers. They've only begun to scratch the surface of what Hololive members can do but because management is overly cautious or dumb or both, they don't do a lot of experimenting or branching out minus some exceptions who have to fight with their managers.

Is it? I don't watch a lot of holoen, but nijien and vshojo are still growing and haven't lost viewers from what I can tell.

I mean, considering how much all of the ENs have declined in views, I kind of can.

The girls have done a few very entertaining streams in the past weeks. Mousey has started hosting a talk show where she interviews other vtubers and it's very good and a great success. Nyanners has played a few horror games while using a heart rate monitor and broke 10k viewers on most of those streams. Veibae gets 8k+ viewers while playing Project Zomboid. I don't see any sign of the trend dying there.

vtubing will always be japan's baby. they will still thrive regardless if the pandemic would be gone or not. winner here will be the jp branches, particularly niji.

the west would not watch much anymore with the vaccinations and lifted restrictions, having folks to return to their usual lives prior to the pandemic. many still treat vtubers as niche or a gimmick.
