NTA, but there is a currency you can use to upgrade the characters you get that is almost exclusively acquired through rolling multiple copies of them (which often will end up costing a lot of money).

The game has suddenly added MORE things to spend these special coins on (which are vastly more gameplay relevant than the previous ones, so some people feel scammed about "wasting" their previous coins) and now in order to fully max out a character you need to roll 8 copies of a 5 star or 24 copies of a 4 star. Which have a 0.5% and 1.5% chance of being rolled respectively.

So basically people who used to have maxxed out characters now will need to spend hundreds of dollars if they want their favorite characters to feel "complete" again and be as powerful as the game will allow.

Servant coins are something you get every time you roll a character in the gacha, and they are used to upgrade that specific character with extra skills.
The thing about them though is that if you want to upgrade EVERY skill, you previously needed to get 6 copies of an SSR servant, which is already hard enough as it is.
Now with the latest update, they decided to add 2 more skills that you unlock using servant coins, but added no new way to attain servant coins. Which means that now people need to roll 9 copies of an SSR to unlock all the skills.
It was a system that was already pretty unpopular being made even worse, seemingly only because of greed.
