Actually Japan, despite Christians making up only about 2% of their population, has a disporportionately high Christian representation in power. Like 20% of their prime ministers after WWII have been Catholic.
And if you really knew Jap culture you’d be aware of the fact that many Japs think Christianity is cool even if they dont believe in the religion itself. Examples of this would be the prevalence of wearing clothes or accessories with a cross on them as a fashion, the numerous references to Christianity in anime such as Evangelion, and of course the fact that they celebrate Christmas and Halloween (halloween is derived from the Catholic day of All-Saints Day).

And as others have pointed out, there are numerous reasons why Japan did so well after WWII, but religion has nothing to do with it. In fact the country was a kind of an impoverished shithole back in the old days when Christianity was a huge crime in the country. As I said in the Gura Sabaton thread I really think more chuubas that educate the west about Japanese folklore would be cool, although there’s always going to be cultural barriers and elements lost in translation, with games like Okami being examples of sharing the culture. But as a Britbong I can definitely see some of the cultural similarities (island nation, historical imperial power, often isolationist) I’m also wary of Americanisation and Christianisation as forms of cultural erosion, since both can lead to cosmopolitan rootless culture that loses its connection to older traditions (although traditional does not equal good by default)
