Throw away all pride. Throw away all pride and just pander. Pander to the lowest common denominator. Do karaoke if you have to. That is my advice. Sing Tenacious D, yeah, just sing Tenacious D. Just throw away your pride and sing Tenacious D.

Good morning, /wVT/! My unquenchable thirst for knowledge returns, and so I humbly ask a few questions.

1) Did you watch any corporate vtubers before finding /wVT/?
2) If so, who did you watch?
3) What did you like about them? What drew you to their content? How long did you watch them?
4) Did it take you a while to warm up to indies, or did it happen right away?
5) What drew you to indies? Can you compare it to the corporate content you enjoy(ed)?
6) Do you look for indies with content similar to Hololive/Niji?
7) If you had/have a cooperate oshi, is the content of your favorite indie in any way similar?
8) How do you compare the indie western vtuber scene to the corporate scene?
9) Are you happy, /wvt/?

These are numerous, so feel free to skip any questions you do not want to answer. Thank you!

>1) Did you watch any corporate vtubers before finding /wVT/? 2) If so, who did you watch?
Kizuna Ai, Kaguya Luna, then Korone and the rest of hororaibu. I also tune into Pikamee, but basically no other corpo is on my radar.
>3) What did you like about them? What drew you to their content? How long did you watch them?
Novelty, personality, entertaining. I liked the short-form content of Kizooter and Luna, and loved the 7FPS waifu aesthetic and LOUD ENERGY of Luna especially. I watched them for a year or so before falling off, then I got hooked on Korone and watched the rest after seeing some Korone clip I don't even remember, but it was over a year ago.
>4) Did it take you a while to warm up to indies, or did it happen right away?
Chuuba is chuuba, simple as. The appeal of entertainers in my native language far outweighs cute anime girls.
>5) What drew you to indies? Can you compare it to the corporate content you enjoy(ed)?
I wanted to become a chuuba, so I started looking at how it's done in the West. It's a lot more personal since I watch sub-100 viewers, and I don't know if most things I find funny would translate without getting to know the chuubas in their chat.
>6) Do you look for indies with content similar to Hololive/Niji?
I look for retro and weird games, so not really.
>7) If you had/have a cooperate oshi, is the content of your favorite indie in any way similar?
I don't have one (closest would be Nene), but I can't think of anyone that compares to her or Korone, Poruka, or Botan.
>8) How do you compare the indie western vtuber scene to the corporate scene?
A lot more yab, but also a lot more free.
>9) Are you happy, /wvt/?
I've never been happy and never will be.

morning ayy!

1. Yes. I imagine there'd be few who didn't.
2. Ai-chan, Choco, HNST, HoloENs mostly. Some stray ASMRtubers.
3. Ai-chan's prerecorded stuff was easy to watch. This was before streams became the norm. Also her music is great. I listened to Choco ASMR while doing other stuff back before she got bonked for it. HNST I just really like Mary. She's a sweetheart. Of the HoloENs I liked Ina's drawing streams and Kiara's zatsudans. There was just a lot going on around then.
4. Not really. I got in with Kitanya and from there it went pretty quick. I guess it helped that her debut had a good turnout for an indie. I used to be concerned about watching low view vtubers because I was worried about leaving. This was before I became aware of how the scale for indies worked quite differently from corporates, like how 10 viewers are actually a decent amount.
5. Kitanya's energy made it easy to go down the rabbit hole and see that a lot of indies deliver pretty high quality content. I don't really compare vtubers with each other anymore though.
6. Not really. It's mostly about the streamer and their content, how much they stand out and whether they fill certain niches.
7. Not at all actually.
8. They're not terribly different. Probably because many indies took inspiration from corporates. Some indies even do the 3D model karaoke/concert type content, though personally I'd like to see skits make a comeback.
9. Hanging in there. My last promising job application got declined so demotivation is setting back in. Can't support your chuuba with no income.

>Did you watch any corporate vtubers before finding /wVT/?
Yes
>If so, who did you watch?
Only one seriously was Moruru of Niji, everyone else was just clips or stray streams
>What did you like about them? What drew you to their content? How long did you watch them?
Novelty, Moruru I watched because she was different than everybody else, playing retro titles and had an interesting design/mannerisms. I still didn't watch them for too long in any case.
>Did it take you a while to warm up to indies, or did it happen right away?
It happened right away because I always liked MiraPink
>What drew you to indies? Can you compare it to the corporate content you enjoy(ed)?
The ability to talk to people and unironic diversity in content.
>Do you look for indies with content similar to Hololive/Niji?
No, I don't like corporates.
>If you had/have a cooperate oshi, is the content of your favorite indie in any way similar?
Yes
>How do you compare the indie western vtuber scene to the corporate scene?
They're like any other, indies have a lot more perceived freedom but they still follow corporate trends and styles. Corporate is safe and high quality but gets boring and there's not much meaningful innovation.
>Are you happy, /wvt/?
Are you happy?

I'm not a frequent watcher but I would love to chat with you more. Though you seem pretty busy with life and whatnot.

I watched Holos, VOMS and Niji KR.Companies didn't exist before I watched vtubers. I watch Towa, Anya, Magnet, Korean Friend, and Roha Lee perspectively.
>What did you like about them? What drew you to their content? How long did you watch them?
A nice voice is probably why I watch them since. Other than that it's hard to pinpoint on the exact reason.
>Did it take you a while to warm up to indies, or did it happen right away?
JP indies i've always have watched, now western ones were the hardest fucking swallow to pill when you get introduced to western indies and the avatars you first get shown is Picky and Peony.
>What drew you to indies? Can you compare it to the corporate content you enjoy(ed)?
The indies I watch reminds me of simpler times when streaming was just people hanging out.
>Do you look for indies with content similar to Hololive/Niji?
No, not realy
>If you had/have a cooperate oshi, is the content of your favorite indie in any way similar?
One forces me to watch apex while the other actually plays fun games and draws.
>How do you compare the indie western vtuber scene to the corporate scene?
western indies is filled with too many 2 view vroid hoodie males. The corporate scene has a Rigger Nigger that fucked over Anya,Matuli and Gura more times than it should.

2. Learned about vtubers as a concept from Kizuna and Siro, then got really roped in later by Korone and Fubuki
3. Cute voice/design, actually playing vidya live instead of canned stuff like the old days, watched them for several months as I fell further down the hole
4. I liked the idea of indies but I used to be averse to watching small streams in general, it took me almost a year to give them a chance
5. Got kind of tired of how restrictive and professional the corpos were, especially with how streaming permissions work, where everyone ended up playing the same games at the same time. It was nice seeing people just do whatever they want
6. No, they fit different niches and shouldn't try to chase each other's success
7. Not really besides singing and being a generally charming person
8. I like how lax the indie scene is, even though it comes with a lot of baggage I don't care for like the clique-ness or people wanting to drag politics or their personal life through things. Sure you have to sift through all the low effort 2-views but there are a lot of gems
9. Not particularly, but I don't feel that bad either.

Now it's your turn to answer them.

1) Yes
2) Hololive, technically NijiEN too but that was around the same time as I started branching out to indies.
3) It's a bit heretical but I prefer twitch to yt, mainly because I don't have a google account, and a lot of them are on twitch. Twitch also just feeds me indies in my suggestions automatically which is how I got drawn to them.
4) Took a while but it was more that I just wasn't looking not that I was put off by them.
5) Just was looking for content to watch.
6) Not really.
7) Ina is my oshi and my favorite western indie is Alice Sawyer, I think they do have some similarities. Soft spoken, weeb, comfy art streams.
8) Haven't been in the scene long enough to say.
9) Yes

Morning alium! hope your day is going well so far!
>1) Did you watch any corporate vtubers before finding /wVT/?
I only watched Hololive prior to finding /wVT/!
>2) If so, who did you watch?
I pretty much watched whoever was on... Most of my time from like, November to February was spent with a Holopro member on one screen. Ame is my oshi though!
>3) What did you like about them? What drew you to their content? How long did you watch them?
I think it was her personality mostly, and the fact that she was the first one that I watched.
>4) Did it take you a while to warm up to indies, or did it happen right away?
Once I got into watching indies, I pretty much completely dropped Hololive, though I'm still membered to Ame!
>5) What drew you to indies? Can you compare it to the corporate content you enjoy(ed)?
It was nice to be able to talk to the streamer instead of being a stray comment that may or may not be noticed. A lot of the indies I've watched also have passion for what they stream and you can see that a lot in streamers who go for more niche content/games.
>6) Do you look for indies with content similar to Hololive/Niji?
Not necessarily, no.
>7) If you had/have a cooperate oshi, is the content of your favorite indie in any way similar?
It is not!
>8) How do you compare the indie western vtuber scene to the corporate scene?
The indie scene is full of a bunch of different circles of people; /wvt/ being one of those circles. I think something that I feel is comparable is that when you're in a community like this, you can sort of follow the story of everyone's streaming careers in the same way a lot of people would very closely watch gens in corpos interact. Watching everyone grow and friendships build as the months go is incredible, and I really think that the entertainment I get from indies is as comparable to that of corporate chuubas. I wish that everyone in this community finds their chance to incline!
>9) Are you happy, /wvt/?
I usually am, and currently am! I hope you're happy too!

I understand! I get that we all watch who we have the time to watch. I really love chatting with people, but I am bad at managing my time with my energy levels and health. I am slowly working on getting better, so I hope we can talk more when I am.

>>8128725
>Now it's your turn to answer them.
Aha, I rarely get asked to answer my own questions. They will not be very extensive, in any case, since I did not watch many vtubers before I started. The only Japanese vtuber I watched was Oga Saki and the only western was Ina. I really liked Saki's energy! Even if I could not understand her. And Ina I watched because I have always enjoyed art streams, and her gesture drawing streams were incredibly motivating.

It took me while to really watch vtubers because the first few Holo clips I was down put me off pretty firmly... I think it was a Korone clip of her acting really weird, and I could not understand the appeal, which killed my interest in Hololive pretty early on. I think my first real indies were Kongou and Corpse, who remain my favorites to this day. I do hope I can find someone similar to Saki eventually. I like energetic vtubers with a focus on zatsudans, but I also really enjoy acting/in character and skilled gameplay, so my favorites tend to revolve around that.

And am I happy? Hm... I am magnitudes happier than I was 7 months ago. So I will say yes, even though I have a long way to go. Thank you for asking, sweet anon.

>It's interesting how a lot of vtubers got into it without being big on vtubers themselves.
Well, my draw to vtubing was from the streaming perspective, since I had watched streamers long before I knew about vtubers. I feel like there is a weird kind of Venn diagram, where there are people who only got into streams through vtubers, people who were originally into streamers but discovered vtubers later on, and those who vaguely knew of one but only had experience with the other. As someone who used twitch for years, I was really confused when I saw that most /wvt/ people did not use twitch and had never watched normal streamers before. Especially since PNG type streamers have been around since at least 2015, from my memory.

Very, but that isn't a niche the way that 2D anime girls are. They are a niche within a niche. sorry in advanced, most of these are jp and not western.
1) Yes, I watched both Holo and Niji
2) Mostly Subaru, Nene, and Emma August. Sometimes Sora and Kirame
3) I like zatsudan/chatting streams, helps me with my jp reps, and they usually have funny things to say. Mostly character design draws me in at first, but what makes me stay is personality and entertainment value. Subaru was the first I started watching, it's been almost 2 years now.
4) It took me a while to start watching indies, only because it was relatively hard to discover them as most game collabs (how I was introduced to Hololive) and clips (how I discovered Emma/Niji) focus largely on corporate chuubas
5) Indie draw for me was largely chat interaction and less restrictive rules on community engagement. Former was very similar to early holo member only streams, latter was just something that would have been nice.
6) Not in particular, but familiar content would help me personally appreciate indies for who they are
7) My corporate oshi now is Aoi from Prism, and my favorite indie is probably Uni Shirahara. The content is very similar, JP/EN bilingual, amazing singing, and nice zatsudan.
8) Western indies are a mixed bag imho. Kana, Reiny (Hi Reiny, I know you lurk sometimes), Shizukou are all pretty fun and high quality. With corporate (even small corpo like Prism/Tsunderia/PC/Kawaii) you can expect a certain baseline of quality, but with indies it's up to you to filter on your own.
9) Not particularly, but also not particularly not happy either. I sort of just go through the motions on a daily basis wondering what I'm going to do with myself when, at whatever point, my oshi graduates

anyhow, it is a multitude of reasons. wanting to pander to a weeaboo audience, they themselves being weeaboo or on a more positive side, western otaku. maybe they just like the name, that falls into "being a weeb" category

>1) Did you watch any corporate vtubers before finding /wVT/?
I watched a mainly HoloJP and one or two Niji and a few Japanese indies but HoloEN really took up most of my time afterwars
>2) If so, who did you watch?
Kiara the most
>3) What did you like about them? What drew you to their content? How long did you watch them?
I really like Kiara's energy and resilience, what really drew me was her cool lore intro on debut and early on in HoloEN's first few months I watched every stream but hers were the ones I enjoyed the most seeing the "sufferkino" in minecraft watching her slowly improve and get better at the game was an early highlight since her energy with every small achievement was eggciting
>4) Did it take you a while to warm up to indies, or did it happen right away?
I was already watching indies before HoloEN, I was a /Virtual Youtuber/ thread reader
>5) What drew you to indies? Can you compare it to the corporate content you enjoy(ed)?
I like the variety indies have coupled with the freedom for corotate control though corporate control isn't inherently bad given the backing it can give
>6) Do you look for indies with content similar to Hololive/Niji?
In terms of games I look for the ones I love
>7) If you had/have a cooperate oshi, is the content of your favorite indie in any way similar?
I can't really say I have a favorite indie, all of them are unique in their own regard doing their own thing and I wish them the best!
>8) How do you compare the indie western vtuber scene to the corporate scene?
The scene is a lot more disorganized but the chaos can lead to more creativity
>9) Are you happy, /wvt/?
I am now that I can relax!

Good afternoon, Knowledge Seeker Ayy. Today has been, by all technical definition, a day, so late response.
1) Yes, clips of HoloEN shortly after their debut got me started on vtubers.
2) Whatever I could catch of EN, Gen5, Fubuki, or any dabbling in Eigo streams, in addition to clips of all shapes and sizes.
3) Cute anime girls being cute, honestly. Mostly, it was like watching a slice-of-life anime, but in realtime. A notable exception was catching part 1 of Botan's "Baba Is You" playthrough, where I was just raw impressed by her ability to pick up on linguistics differences between JP and EN and solve puzzles based around that kind of word magic.
4) I came along the Koopa bus, so not that long. Took quite a while to actively make Youtube and Twitter accounts to track them properly, and longer yet still to start chatting.
5) Following Kwap, it really boiled down to actual ability to interact. For large corpos, it's a complete crapshoot if anything other than emote spam gets noticed, and with smaller indies, chat moves slow enough that individual messages are much more frequently read out.
6) Not really. Most streamers tend towards gaming, drawing, and singing, with dabbling into camera-based streams. Art creation, be it picture or music, is enjoyable, games are fun, singing is almost always a treat.
7) The closest I had to an oshi in the corporate world was probably Ina. The "do your reps" mindset resonates strongly with me. Not all of my favorite indies do art streams, however, so it's not a deal breaker one way or the other.
8) Indie feels much more wild-west, in a multitude of fashions. You can fly closer to the TOS of the platforms, get wilder with song and game choice, build things on camera. There's more room for experimentation without fear of yabbing too hard.
9) In general, I'm content. Today, I'm not feeling it, at all. Work is driving me insane so I'm going to miss almost everything I wanted to watch today, the rest of the day is looming ahead of me, it's still horrible outside... I'm just not having a good time. Tomorrow will probably be better, and it always turns around eventually.

1) Did you watch any corporate vtubers before finding /wVT/?
>Yeah, I got interested in hololive through clippers. Watched a lot more translated clips than I did official streams.
2) If so, who did you watch?
>HololiveJP: Korone, Nene
>HololiveEN: Ina, Kiara
3) What did you like about them? What drew you to their content? How long did you watch them?
>I really liked how Koro and Nene would express themselves with these really basic and ugly mspaint stuff. Like, they had this whole world of things they would whip up and it wasn't polished at all.
4) Did it take you a while to warm up to indies, or did it happen right away?
>I started to want to be a vtuber. It clicked how I could be a male presenting vtuber and it could be a really top tier high skill hobby. So... I had previously seen indies and didn't think much of them. Suddenly they were my role models. It was crazy how my perceptions shifted so intensely.
5) What drew you to indies? Can you compare it to the corporate content you enjoy(ed)?
>I guess the first vtuber who I started watching who was really indie was Temmie. Through her I started watching Pikamee, who, now I wouldn't necessarily call her indie anymore. With Temmie, I never got the impression she was programming and producing content that she just wanted to do but with Hololive I get the impression they chase trends hard, maybe because the artists don't feel compelled to do anything in particular. You can tell when someone is making inspired content and when they're just working hours. It occurs to me that I like vtubers with interesting voices, Pikamee definitely grabbed me with her voice.
6) Do you look for indies with content similar to Hololive/Niji?
>No, but I'm not really sure what that means anymore. I watched a Shiki stream the other day where she was reading weekly horoscopes, which I've never seen before. I enjoyed it despite knowing little about it.
7) If you had/have a cooperate oshi, is the content of your favorite indie in any way similar?
>I mentioned before that I like vtubers who make their own art and assets. Now, maybe Koro and Nene don't make their own stuff and I have been fooled. Self-reliance is indie, right?
8) How do you compare the indie western vtuber scene to the corporate scene?
>I see all vtubers are business-people. I just assume everyone wants to do it full time. I absolutely dislike if an indie is talking politics, religion, culture war shit because I see it as antithetical to good business practices. This is obviously far more common the "more" indie you are lol, the smaller the artist, the more likely they don't have a filter.
9) Are you happy, /wvt/?
>Yeah, I am. Life isn't perfect at all but I feel like the things I am doing are leading to a better tomorrow consistently. It's liberating.
