I think I remember seeing somewhere that it's because they've never done Live2D designs before. They aren't the exact same thing as drawing a normal character if you've ever seen what a reference file looks like. It's quite different to just designing a character.

Their normal style are non-traditional anime designs that don't translate well to l2d models.
they're fantastic artists in their own right, but in pako's (and I'll lump huke in here too) case they had to work out of their comfort zone and use design elements we don't usually see from them. They're simplified and made to look more "anime".
I wouldn't have even known she was a pako design if it wasn't explicitly said, like how you wouldn't recognize Kiara as huke's design in a vaccum.
Pako's also literally color blind, and his usual color palette choice reflects that, which is why his usual art looks so unique. Forcing him to be "normal" takes that away.
