Duolingo is decent enough as an entry point but the problem with it (or any type of language learning apps with preset lessons in general) is that it's terrible at tracking your progress. It can't tell if you've already got that grammar point or vocabulary down and will repeat the same lesson over and over again. People burnt out or lost motivation to learn because they can't sense that they're getting better, because even the app that teaching them can't either. After a certain point, you have to do the tracking yourself and choose what to revise/learn
