If you are destroying your friend in a game would you intentionally let them win one just to let them feel better?

>> No.7959042

as far as i can tell, no one ever likes to be underestimated. they'll just get mad even more if you lose on purpose.

>> No.7959103

Depends on the game, if it's my forte, which is fighting games, it's literally impossible to let someone win without looking like you're throwing against a horrible player. So I just will beat them at a slower pace in hopes they can get a grasp of why they are losing..

It's fine if you play with options that you're not good at. Like if you play a fighting game character you're not familiar with. But if you're playing your best character and just playing retarded then it's insulting.

If losing a round or two in a game upsets someone that much, then sandbagging so they can win one isn't going to make them feel any less like a loser.

This. Also, I genuinely praise them when they manage to best me in some way even if it was pure luck, so they know what good plays should look like from their perspective

>> No.7961497

My family is just a bunch of salty losers so as I'm the only one who knows how to play video games, if I don't throw the other person gets frustrated and doesn't want to play anymore. My mom isn't too bad but I don't get to play games with her much.
My little sister is actually pretty good at speedrunners, she can beat me fairly often and even when I win it's not by much

>> No.7961549

No. If you're going to sandbag, do it on the first set, tell them you were merely pretending, and then proceed the win x99 times so they seethe more.

>> No.7961836

Dr. Panksepp famously studied social play in rats, observing its frequency and the physical attributes of the rats involved. One of the results was that rats love to engage in play fighting, but if a stronger rat "wins" the play fight more than 70% of the time, the weaker rat will become discouraged and stop initiating play with that rat. So yes, you and your oshi should sandbag tastefully, occasionally, and as necessary in order to maintain good play dynamics in a relationship.

Yes, of course. I'm not a dipshit. And I more than likely want them to keep playing with me and enjoy the game. So yeah, I'll throw a bit. I don't admit it or telegraph that I'm doing it in any way though, I just throw some crappy punches or whatever until the playing field is more even. They have fun. I have fun. We get to keep playing. Everybody wins. My need to win isn't thaaaat big.

As a moderately skilled fighting game player I just switch to a character I don't know and try to do complex combos and moves, that way it looks (and it is actually because) like I'm losing because I'm trying to style too hard and flubbing it.
It doubles because it makes it look like they're taking advantage of my retardation.

this is how I handle this kind of shit when no ones having fun by me dominating. I go for the flashiest, most risky moves, strategies, etc. It's fun for me because it gives me a chance to try shit out that's a little crazy and fun for others because I'm gonna fuck up half the time and get to make me look stupid as they take advantage of my elaborate failure easily. I'm sure there are games where this kind of gameplay doesn't work, but for everything I do if you don't overdo it and make the other player feel like you're not trying at all, it's fun for everyone.

No, cause thats just being disrespectful and most people will pick up that your sandbagging immediately. You should always try, just change up what you are doing. Playing people that are significantly worse then you can be a really useful thing. It lets you comfortably go for the difficult shit and and other things you need practice on in a real match. Going for things you dont have fully learned means you fuck up more so its also more fair for them. Sometimes playing someone you can beat the brakes off of can be better practice then playing someone around your skill level that you have to play safely to stay even with. Need all types of opponents to improve.

Anyone who gets mad because you let them win is 100% justified. Letting someone win and doing harder less consistent shit to make it more fair arent the same thing. Also yeah anything head to head versus is gonna make people mad, nobody like losing. If the person your with gets super mad over losing you probably should just play something co-op or random af like mario party.
