Shouldn't we have higher standards as consumers of an entertainment medium? I implore everybody to check out this stream. The difference between how fluid and beautiful the 3D model is compared to the stiff cardboard cut out of the 2D model is astounding. We should not accept these cheap ass Live2D models as fans.

>Why are we ok with Live2D?
Great 3d is expensive. Midcore 3D is terrible

You're argument boils down to 3D should supersede 2D when they can both exist in the same medium because they are both options within the medium. I bet you are the type to say we should only watch 3D movies and 2D movies or claymation are old news, even though they achieve the same result by different methods. Better to have more options instead of limiting the scope. That would be true stagnation.

The price point, technical knowledge (including troubleshooting), equipment requirements, price point, etc for JP talents to all have 3D models is what makes it so prohibitive. That and the lack of talented artists able to produce high quality models for use with tracking software. Scuffed Live2D is usually pretty forgiveable as long as it isn't Neko-Gura tier, but scuffed 3D is just absolute dogshit. Not to mention that "household" motion tracking is not only ridiculously expensive even at the lower tier (OpenVR based tracking systems) but requires a lot more work to troubleshoot and maintain than just "Plug in iphone, ope napp"

Live2D is closer to anime girls than full 3D.

Technology doesn't matter, nobody actually cares. The personalities are what sells.

I couldn't concentrate on the actual content at all since the display in front of me was such a massive embarrassment for Nijisanji. Imagine actually airing a stream where the guest just completely makes the host look like shit. Total disgrace for Nijisanji and it really makes them look bush league.

There's good 3D out there that can replicate it but allow for a lot more of "muh immersion"

Compare styles like this to Pekora's actual 3D

The goal is to create entertainment and the reality is that the technical quality is not the main determining factor. So someone that is funny, endearing, cute, or cool but with a worse avatar will get more views than someone who has great tech but less interesting. (Though even before that you have things like advertising and reach which are the #1 factor)
Also in this interconnected day and age, you have basically no chance of changing. So saying "Shouldn't we have higher standards...?" is worthless, because there's oceans of people walking up to consume content. If you lived in a village of 20 people then sure you could more easily discuss and effect change, but this is just pissing in the wind.
The only way you could personally work towards your goal would be making the tech incredibly less expensive so that anyone can pick it up,
