I only get this impression from hololive's EN branch. Both Towa and Astel collabed with Bora from nijiKR recently (as in the last two weeks), so I think it's less that they're becoming isolated and more that both vtuber companies are busy with their own things.
I would love if the EN branches collabed, but only if there's some precedent like Kiara and Pomu, or a group collab so people can formally meet each other.

The population that follows and is aware of NijiEn that isn't aware of HoloEN already has got to be tiny. There's not a ton of upside for Hololive for just that reason. Not to say it won't happen but there's not any real driving force since the fan bases probably have huge overlap already.

From Hololive, Towa and Matsuri are exceptions because they're constantly being invited to APEX tournaments. Funnily enough, though, Matsuri confirmed on stream that, during the previous APEX tournament hosted by Shibuya Hal, Cover Corp stepped in and told him he couldn't partner any of the girls up with men. Can only give my own opinion on that, I'm sure people would disagree, but I don't think it's possible to sell Nijisanji as a company. Their strength is their variety, which means there are way too many vtubers to pay attention to or even know the names of. They have their own little groups within the company, so it's not like they act as separate vtubers. You have the option of finding vtubers you like and catching glances of vtubers that interact with them to see if you like them, and ignoring them if they don't. You don't feel as attached to the brand, but you also don't feel like parts of the company that you don't like are ruining it for you.

The other thing is that Hololive is much more interested in taking content creators and turning them into vtubers nowadays, rather than scouting out people with vtuber talent and hiring them.

I think rather than quality over quantity, they have skills but aren't at the level of professionals most of the time. Selen is a pretty good example of one side. She's good at Apex compared to most vtubers, but likes to play games she has nostalgia for and doesn't let being bad at them stop her. She's not the kind of person you'd put up on stage singing in an idol outfit. Whereas you are eventually going to see Holo vtubers put into an idol role whether it suits them or not. You have someone like Ina who had little experience as a vtuber, but was an amazing artist that was able to improve herself to get a dedicated audience and even produce an original song that people liked, so it's not like that can't work out sometimes. But everyday streams can be worse if they have trouble with the "play a random game and be entertaining" part of normal streaming, too.
