The backseating is a real issue on this one. I've taught several friends Factorio, and it's not easy even for experienced gamers.
When I help them with red science pack and tell them 'okay now start working on the green science pack' their brain already starts melting. Takes doing it, helping them advance a bunch and starting all over for them to finally see that 'isn't as tough as it looks'. Having to do it by themselves and with chat probably being obnoxious, they'd probably have to play on their free time to get to know it first.
Now for 'who'. Botan is the obvious first choice. Aqua is a skilled gamer and could get good at it if she tries, but doesn't seem like her cup of tea.

You can beat the game in your first playthrough. It's just that there's a lot to learn, and 1st playthrough tends to span around 20-60 hours. Fans would have fallen asleep way earlier, so upfront learning is only needed for content creation.

Subsequent games are better off in multiplayer and/or in guerilla streams - you can easily spend >200hrs on one save file for end-game stuff.
