usually a shrill voice is something just ignored IRL but with a vtuber where you are listening to someone for dozens of hours a month and they often are purposefully talking in a cartoony exagerrated way, it does matter what that voice sounds like. our role is to sit there and listen passively, which is totally different from talking with people in-person mentally, you will sit there and focus on the voice more. it's same reason you don't tend to hear grating Gilbert Gottfried type voices as radio hosts. also in-person a friend or family member etc is not talking @you nonstop without you talking with them for like 3-6 hours a day every day. even if their voice is annoying that doesn't matter because you can do a lot more with someone you're physically around than just talk. with a vtuber we just listen. so the quality of that listening step, matters a fucking lot.

the most annoying part of all is that bae's normal speaking voice is actually very pleasant, she just doesn't use it for vtubing. that's why everyone is always annoyed with it, it's like if a restaurant actually can cook a steak perfectly but they just choose not to serve it to you when you order.
