Honestly I think playing MGS stuff to start off with was probably a pretty smart move. Helps to sure up the fanbase she built up playing those games as Pomu and get them to move across doing something you already know the fanbase loves. Once you've got them invested in the Mint identity then you can branch out and get more risky with content choices. I can understand why someone wouldn't want to pick up a long JRPG instantly following a redebut when those games have almost always put a damper on viewership. The main thing that changed in the interim between Niji and nuMint has been her willingness not so much to star at cons &c. but rather to interact and possibly collab with fellow indies despite her anxiety towards anything related to networking. But while it can hardly be overstated how glad I am to see it happen, it's also true that she wouldn't have tried as hard were it not for the hard realization she had (and mentioned on stream) that now, outside of Matara and crew, she's all "alone" -- not literally of course, but she's not part of a close social circle where everybody references each other anymore.
All of which is to say that it's less of a "secrets have been revealed to me" and more of a "shit I can't be alone forever" kind of situation, and most other changes between late Pomu and now can almost entirely be attributed to Niji stifling her in one way or another.
