The pacing of the story in general feels a little strange after this one. It reads like it's at odds with itself between being a military story in a time of supposed war and a romance that is feeling more flat the more it goes on. Like after this one I can't help but wonder why Sora hasn't had any introspection or even talks with herself over if she is gay enough to be groomed by a superior officer. She comes from what is probably a traditional village with a simple way of life, the idea of being with another woman should be foreign or her. There is the chance I'm misinterpreting it from her perspective and it's meant to be a question if it's a familial type of love, but all the context around it tries to paint it otherwise. The interpersonal scenes themselves feel like they aren't given enough flourish to potentially help these ends, like they're very plain so I'm not really getting a grasp of what it's meant to mean to the characters involved. I think that might come from the idea that the characters themselves aren't too familiar to a reader and there are only very tiny details between chapters of what they are really like. Sora gets a tiny bit of development here, but as the main star of this story, it's far too little too slowly when she has essentially four different motivations and plotlines happening at once.

I was feeling the same thing when re-reading the past 3 chapters so I wanted to give them more heart and energy since most of it has only gone to Botan and AZKi. I realized Civia's a stranger to them so I'm going to have a more gradual opening up between her and her squad which was why it was just a little glimmer this time. I think though I get what you're saying in that there needs to be a bit more heart rather than just arcs, which was the reason I included those mementos. There will be a poker game in the near future. I'll also add more workplace humor.

As for Sora, her character is mainly that she doesn't really know what's going on and she'll be forged into something greater. As for her traditionalist ways, I never really gave that much consideration as far as the romance is concerned but there romance hasn't quite reached its full potential yet so there's ample time for it.

As for pacing, I'll start speeding it up a bit. Now is the perfect time to stop focus on the routines and drills and get much deeper with the main plot. I just want to be sure AZKi, Civia and Sora have their moments together before they go their separate ways. This won't be a very quick story because the ending will be pretty short and to the point so I want to give a lot of build up to it so it doesn't just end like a wet fart.

Otherwise, I'll add some more heart to the interactions, give the pacing a bit more speed and give some more character development to Sora and Civia.

Honestly Civia isn't a contention point right now. She's a good contrast to the group since she comes from a higher background, but as far as the present relationships are concerned, I'm not too invested or concerned with whatever it is she's doing. It's more about the main ones that need more innards. Like Sora at this point should feel like she can confide or at least want to confide in Azki about anything. If they're meant to have each others backs in this new chapter of their lives, it needs to feel more organic and their interactions end with more than just an "ok". Which also kinda leads to Sora herself, she may not be meant to know about everything that is going on, but on a fast track to training and an education, she should be getting considerably more aware of herself. For your argument over the romance, you've been using a lot of contextual cues that Sora can see that puts the idea in her head that Botan might want to be something more to her. Just the jokes and teaching her how to wear a damn bra would be enough for her to think through if she would kiss a girl or not. If she asked herself about love in a previous chapter, she's at the point to ask herself if she's a lesbian. It's also fine if she's known she likes girls all her life, but it probably deserves to be mentioned.
Careful with how you speed up the pacing, since I didn't say it was too slow, I said the character development was slow. A semblance of a main plot is pretty much hidden to me at this point besides Sora maybe getting a horse some day and learning how to write "botan is gay". So be extra careful with how you present an overarching plot to this story or else it's gonna just show up like whatever dudes waltzed up in the beginning of the story.
