Part of it is that Cover IS big, and the CEO who runs it appears to be a reasonably decent guy.

Its biggest competitor, Nijisanji, really is a piece of shit black company. Don't believe me? Ask a group here known as the Dragoons, the name for Dokibird/Selen's fanbase. Once some of Nijisanji's fiercest and most effective digital shock troops, they revolted when Anycolor up and terminated Selen on bullshit non-compliance charges. It didn't help that in doing so, Anycolor confirmed several yabs and rrats about it going back several months, such as it skinwalking its talents' accounts and handing out stealth suspensions.

As someone who never watches hololive, the EN-vtubing crown currently belongs to them, because the company I used to follow sure as hell doesn't deserve it.

Before holoEN, the English vtuber scene was literally like 1% as popular as it became afterward. Actually, HoloEN was basically the entire scene as far as a ton of newfag fans were concerned, like literally all of it to the point they could barely discern or tell that no someone like Artemis being another shark vtuber had nothing at all to do with Gura, and no Uto was not actually related to Ame or canonically Ame's sister, they just shared the same artist. This was also in basically peak lockdown period where everyone was cooped up and a lot of people were bored and suggestible and it was during this time that Gura hit a million subs in like, a month, and then another couple million within the next year.

Next to holoEN where many of the girls (even besides Gura) could pull like 10-20k viewers a stream, some twitch 2view indies were literally-fucking-nothing. Not only that but unless affiliated with a JP corpo, in general EN vtubers outside Holo couldn't even be discussed on /jp/ because they literally weren't Japanese enough (that is literally the design of the board, and a Westerner on a Western site streaming only in English was not /jp/-enough). JP corpo but with English speaker was like a loophole hack and previously holoID and holoCN (or at least Artia) enjoyed some popularity there on account of it, same with Pikamee and Hana. But the discussion of all those other girls put together was dwarfed literally like 100x over by the influx of discussion and new users there specifically to only talk about holoEN. HoloEN's popularity was a fucking atom bomb vs the rest of all vtuber discussion besides HoloJP (which was already very popular on /jp/). So with HoloEN now doubling the level of Hololive-specific discussion there, the non-Holo segment proportionally shrunk from like, 2% of the board to just 1%. It was from this pool of users and meta that /vt/ was made.
