I expect drama-related unsubbing works the same way: a bunch of people unfollow right after the yab, more in the following weeks, and then it stabilizes. Millie lost what? 20k? 25k? right away, it's weird that she's still losing them at a steady pace months later for a much higher total than the initial wave of unsubs.

You're overthinking it. These are people who only supported NijiEN passively, but after the Selen drama they realized they don't actually like anyone besides Selen/Pomu and unsubbed. Every time they stream, more people notice they're still subbed to NijiEN and click that unsub button.
It's primarily affecting the first 5 waves because they had all the buffs from debuting during Covid just like HoloEN. The later waves have such stagnant growth that they never benefited from a box effect in the first place.

Culled subs and deleted accounts don't really happen on YT after the first month or so. Look at Gura, something like 90% of her subs are fake or dead accounts but Youtube doesn't touch them despite the lack of activity on her channel. They pretty much have no incentive to cull subs from an established creator, even if the subs are dead. It would be a huge scandal if they started culling Mr Beast's 50 billion dead subs.

I agree with nearly all these points, but I'd swap out the possibility of a few stragglers unsubscribing because of Selen. They would have all left within the first month or so; there wouldn't be any reason why they would latch onto Nijisanji this long otherwise, even with the long-awaited promise of Obsydia 3D on the horizon.
