As I said before, the order of presentation is part of the experience. Getting the information in a different order changes how it affects you and how you engage with the rest of the narrative.

For example, going into Metal Gear Solid 3 you are expected to understand that this is the story of how Big Boss became who he was in Metal Gear 1/2. That existing knowledge builds a tension that the narrative itself can't offer you within its own scope. So if someone plays MGS3 as their first game in the series, knowing nothing about the story prior, they will have a different experience of Naked Snake's story than someone who played the previous games.

Here's an example where narrative structure spoils itself and harms the experience, in The Last of Us Part II the game turns back the clock halfway through and starts over from the perspective of the antagonists. However, because you've already killed these people in the first half of the story, so the audience is not invested in the future of these characters, making all of their storylines and characterization feel neutered and half-baked.

I mean I can go on and on with this. As a (competent) writer you dole out information with intent. To have the audience get that information in a different way is to inherently devalue their experience of the intended path.
