I streamed here once, under the name Liberti_EN (what was at one point a joke about being a wild motorcycle-rider of Liberty crossed with a phonetic joke about the "ti_EN" having a similar sound to tien, which when said really fast sounds like Libertine, to then lead to my gang's name being the Lotus Eaters, who are implied to be dumbass layabouts who aren't doing anything important. 3D is harder to make look good for cheap/with low effort than 2d. Some custom VRoids look alright, but you need to take the the time to do special facial mapping/ make their shit look not-default. Default vroid expressions also look like a gawking fish. It hurts me every time I see someone who doesn't have their blendshapes set up for facial tracking, it looks so fuckin' bad.

Warudo, one of the newer 3dtubing programs is a really strong program but requires good hardware - a high quality webcam, an iphone, leapmotion, a powerful CPU, etc. Its blueprinting system has a lot of potential but it's low-level coding. I'm a dumb

Like anon said, you can make 2d reactive and bouncy just in OBS. Takes like an hour to learn and do using Shindags methods, and looks great with literally any image.

As always, good sound quality and a clean production is more important than any of this, though.

In my mind, an ideal polymorphic Vtuber would be one with a range of very distinct models that maybe carry a specific theme. I don't have one on hand, but there are a lot of fanarts of characters in a wide variety of "types" (For example, this Male character as a Female, Old Man, Young Boy, Anthro, Evil/Good Swapped, etc.) that could guide the concept, but ultimately just seeing a chuuba being a lot of different forms could be fun. You could even play with it as a supa/dono reward with people being able to manipulate your form for you.

Agreed on reasonability- the highest end for 3d models is around 3 to 4 thousand. You can pay just that for rigging, these days.

Waitlists are fucking insane, it's true. I'll bet there are a lot of 3d artists out there who would be able to take on a vtube job that don't do it already, too - the skills for making a good model are more easily transferable in this niche than from normal art to l2d / l2d rigging.

Wherever you get your model, you need to remember you're shelling out for pretty expensive hardware to make good 3d excel, though. Tracking is make or break if you switch to 3d, and that's where some of your price will come from.

The bare minimum for hardware is about 300.

High quality webcam for Mediapipe

Really, though, the whole point of 3d models is to work as a 'mirror'. Since tracking is 1 to 1 unlike l2d's 'puppetry' style, you want it to be as good as possible. It's possible to do some ghetto full body stuff with a webcam, but it increases your cpu load while streaming.

Leapmotion works *pretty* well for hands, but you're at least going to want an iphone for your facial setup, and some kind of vr body trackers/ base stations. for your physical motion.

Tracking gloves/bodysuits cost one or two thousand bucks each, but that's the super super high end.

Gloves are a better buy than suits, probably- ultimately, your body motion doesn't need to be *that* precise, but things right in front of the viewer (your face and hands) need to look great.

You could probably get quick turnaround on a high quality vroid comm in the meantime. Some of those are as low as a few hundred bucks and look decent - quite good, with good tracking.

Ultimately, 3d is just a different style of doing things. I'd say it looks less 'polished' than live2d, but is so energetic and lifelike (with good tracking) that it makes up for the slightly jankier presentation. You'll benefit from it more if you're bouncy / cute / want to move around a lot.
