Streams from holo en members never engaged me enough. Clips were always fun to see on my down time, but when I watched them live I would always drift off and stopped watching maybe 20 minutes in, they didn't even entertain me enough to keep as background noise.
I was hooked by indies I watched much later after leaving the holo fan bubble. And no, it's not because of whoretubers.

Most people who started watching anything besides holo the first years of /vt/ already went through their honeymoon phase with Hololive, and were already burnt out of watching holos doing the same insipid shit every day and branched out. Nowadays if you are not a newfag the only thing worth watching from Holo is concerts and some karaokes, because they are idols. Their streaming is just advertising, and for every streaming niche there's someone, somewhere, specialized into it, who does it better than holos.
