I don't like Twitch because the VOD system is limited, the emote system is stupid, the TOS shifts on a dime (and Twitch permits more adult-oriented content which I don't like, and the site is full of stupid ways to make random chatters/greynames feel more important and break up good showbiz and entertainment. Twitch streams (in my experience) are less entertaining than Youtube streams.

Also Youtube has bigger numbers, the only reason a vtuber would use Twitch because they can't actually compete with the big boys and so choose a smaller pond. Youtube also allows shorter, highly edited videos, which I like. However, Twitch has exactly one superior element and that's its search function for vtubers. I lick the vtuber tag and it shows me vtubers I might want to watch. Youtube can't really do that as easily or as well.

The real answer is to use both, instead of locking off a section of the scene.

as far as i am aware twitch allows partners a higher bitrate if they stream in 1440p (9k i think) which is higher than 1440p youtube streams. however youtube uses vp9 at 1440 (and 4k) which is more efficient making streams at that resolution more comparable. from my experience twitch still has a slight edge though. 4k is the only point where youtube is unquestionably better.

that's basically because twitch lets you set your bitrate independent of your resolution. so if you want you could stream at the standard 7000kbps at 480p. the stream would be extremely clear with almost no artifacts but it would be all blurry when viewed on any modern monitor or phone. the 900p thing is like a happy medium between 720 and 1080 where you get less artifacts than a 1080 stream but it doesn't look that blurry on your monitor.

in contrast, on youtube your stream gets re-encoded by youtube to arbitrary settings that they determine no matter what video you are streaming so streamers don't have that same control.
