In League, those who used to be Challenger back in the Season 3 but stopped playing, would find their skill levels to be at Gold or Plat at best in the current meta. Drag is a character that relies on fundamentals to play as and is a knowledge check if you're playing against him. He doesn't have any gimmicks besides a lot of plus on block moves and being able to shit out damage like crazy (this is getting nerfed a bit but his core gameplay is still there).
Lack of extra mechanics/stances to keep track of, low execution barrier, and simple gameplan/flowchart make him a very good beginner character. Being top 2 as of writing this post and Dragunov sounding like Dragoon is a plus too

Pretty much sums up my feelings. They started off strong with Lazulight and Obsydia to the point I only really watched NijiEN for most of 2021 because their content was that good.

>Then the disastrous Luxiem 6 month anniversary debacle soured all the male fans away from Niji

There's really no way to recover from this. I've seen it happen countless times with other niche communities. Once the "normie" demographic moves on after cannibalizing your community you'll never get back the original diehard fans you chased away. All these people will slowly leave NijiEN and try their lot infecting the rest of the vtuber world while pretending they weren't part of the problem. But no one will trust them, and anywhere Ethyria goes will be universally hated. The only ones that have a chance of recovering are the people who debuted afterwards and have no real part in the drama like XSoleil, Krisis, and TTT. At most they were just unlucky.

Once Luxiem came there was such a drastic shift in tone for the branch that I slowly tuned out of everything Niji outside of Rosemi by the time Noctyx debuted.

I find it interesting, hearing from Nijifans about warning signs from the past that indicated that something was dreadfully wrong.
