I understand the point you get at entirely, but I don't think it's an absolute thing.
Like, "A janitor in NYC makes more than a rich person in Somalia" is some extreme relative stretching, and obviously ignores the context that a janitor in NYC doesn't live in Somalia, but in NYC, where he has to pay NYC standard fares and fees and bills, whereas the Somalian elite are rich because the bills they pay are so small in comparison.
But you can make a statement like

Instead of completely dismissing it, it's more worthwhile to learn, understand what happens and how a market was made at one point, and only THEN dismiss it once we know the reason it failed and is incapable of holding onto the market it once attempted to command.
For the WNBA comparison specifically, I do think it's possible for the league to EXIST and have a fanbase that's, possibly, self-sustaining. But I don't think one star will catapult them to that, and it'll be up to them to build on this hype train smartly. It won't be the level of Kobe and Jordan, but it could possibly be on the level of, say, the MLB if it doesn't recover? NHL in America?

I watch a few sports and car youtube channels that have like 500k-1mil subs. They get more vodviews than vtubers with comparable subscribers, but nothing absurd like 10x or something.
But these channels have entire teams working fulltime on them, they show off like the mansion the channel has brought and the supercars the owner can afford.

I watched the movies, that's why I mention the changes. Z was under 300 episodes, even with original combined still under 500. Animation quality only picks up very late, like late Zamasu and ToP. Everything before that is really on budget, even U6 tournament, that's why I'm talking about early arcs.
