For a long ass time the definition of a kilogram is the mass of a physical thing, which is a problem because the mass can change due to reactions with elements in the environment. And a lot of units are derived from the kilogram (ex: 1 N = the force to ACCELERATE 1 kg to 1m/s), so it isn't that the definition of 1 kg is unstable, but a lot of other units. Only very recently they got their shit together and defined the kilogram based on universal constants like the speed of light in vacuum.
All SI base units have unstable definitions at one point, but the kilogram stayed retarded for the longest time.
In /vt/ terms, 1 Finana used to be Finana's usual viewership, but that isn't a constant, so now 1 Finana = 300 CCV, and Finana's usual viewership can be less/more than 1 Finana. Finana's viewership is the old mass that was used to define the kilogram, 300 CCV is the current definition of 1 kilogram.
