Unfortunately that doesn't refute my point because until recently they were the literal #1 SC earner for several months in a row. If we look at the breakdown of 37% vs IIRC 53% with merch, #1 of 37% is probably going to win out over ~#10 of 53%.
Not to mention, Hololyzer shows how hilariously EN-sided SC is, whereas there is no reason to believe that merch sales are tilted towards nips, and even if they are, they certainly couldn't be tilted to as extreme a degree as SC is.
Essentially, there is simply no realistic reason to believe that JOPs provide a dramatic portion of their overall revenue. Scrape FWMCs 'mindshare' on nip-based sources from just before their announcing their move.
Then give it a gap of a month and scrape the same info from that point onwards until now.
The depressing reality of all of this is that their popularity and 'mindshare' in Japan prior to them actually aiming for it was an order of magnitude higher before. And if you know how to use those github AI tone analyzers, you can run it on both datasets as well to see something even sadder; Japanese opinions about them back then were significantly more positive than they are now. The "FWMC abandoned their EOP fans" premise has even started showing up in Japanese discussion on rare occasions, since they do occasionally crosspost commentary from English sites, including this one.
Of course, this does make some sense given that a lot of this was "setting up" to catch their attention afterwards, but even given that, the difference between the two time periods is a little foreboding. It's the negativity especially that is the most dangerous thing. People underestimate how rare and valuable almost unanimously positive reputation is to have. Fuwamoco having enough SC to nearly out-earn both of them combined is, at bare minimum, a demonstration of how their SC revenue was on a level that literally no other Holo could even remotely compete with.
Actually, let me phrase it this way, maybe this will make it make sense: if FWMC doubled the previous SC king of Hololive and STILL ended up making more money from merch, then it simply wouldn't make sense for SC to only be 15% less of a portion of the overall revenue(mind you, it was more than a third of overall revenue even in spite of that).
The only way that you can reconcile FWMCs astronomical SC with Covers report showing us that merch had only a lukewarm advantage over SC in aggregate, is if there were Hololive members out there who were pulling massive weight in the SC department while being complete slouches in merch. And we don't see that phenomenon present anywhere. The premise falls apart based on that alone.
