Hi, /p/ here. From what I understand about virtual streamers is that people like you pay real money to men pretending to be anime girls while they stream and act cute. Is it like a cuck thing where you get off on the humiliation or is it like an incel thing where you just want attention badly even if it's from a guy. Or is it a coomer thing and you wank to this somehow? Help me out, what is the appeal? Cheers.

It is not. I am genuinely curious. I have no idea how people would want to waste the precious free time you have in the world on watching men streaming with a anime filter on, let alone pay money for it. I sincerely want to understand what compels so many of you to do it.

My camera is just a tool to take photos with. While I do like my camera a lot after years of trying different ones to get the tool that best suited my photography, I am not attracted to it. Are you attracted to these anime filtered streamers? If so do you pay money because you feel like you might get attention or friendship from them in the long run?

>> No.739261

Personally, vtubers are not the only streamers I watch in the first place. Being honest I'm really not into anime, especially the cutesy kawaii animu gurl, but these people are for the most part genuinely entertaining and a good part are actually very talented, be it in singing or in drawing or anything else.

I used to avoid them until I randomly stumped upon a video of one of them doing a cover of a song I really really liked (which she nailed), and then found out she (and the rest) were legitimately funny and entertaining, so I stuck around.

None? They're just streamers like any other. There are undoubtedly people who do develop a certain degree of dependency to a streamer (especially if it's a guy watching a girl), but that happens in everything that involves parasocial relationships. I just watch them like another person would watch a movie or tv series in their free time, and if they're playing a game I really like I might stick around for the entire time.

Most girls (yes, they're actually women, at least in Hololive which is what the vast majority of this board's people actually watch) do have some sort of act or persona but for the most part they play themselves, and there are so many there's almost certainly something for everyone.

Oh and there's a fairly prominent indie Vtuber scene that doesn't even necessarily stick to anime for an avatar, so there's that too.

Trap vtubers exist but they're usually pretty obvious and (with some exceptions) not particularly popular compared to the actual girls. Frequently vtubers started out as regular livestreamers so it'd be pretty difficult for them to "cover" multiple actual multi-hour streams.

>>739878
It's somewhere in between watching a show and hanging out with a friend. Heck, some of my favorite streams have just been movie watchalongs. Whatever it is, it's new, and I'm not sure there's a pre-internet form of entertainment you can really compare it to.

I am way more into videogames than movies or tv shows, and it's been that way since forever. It's entertaining to see someone with an interesting personality play and react to a game you have played, or to a game you might not have checked out or known if they hadn't played it.
Like I said, vtubers are not the only streamers I watch, I also watch "real" people because of the exact same reason. That's also the reason why I wouldn't watch a vtuber I don't find interesting even if their avatar is super cute.

And you'd rather watch these streams with other people and have a chat log, than watch TV or a movie with friends and family, or playing a game on your own. And you can also simply have friends with similar interests as you, who would also enjoy watching vtubers like you. Wild huh. And much like TV shows you can simply leave them as background noise while you do other stuff. Watching streamers is something you either are into or not, much like any other pastime. Insinuating that you /must/ be spending your time watching a streamer because you have no people in real life with whom to spend it with, instead of simply... both watching them /and/ have a normal social life, is actually quite insulting.

Besides, a lot of people who enjoy videogames (and the streamers who play them) are introverts. It's nothing uncommon to see people who'd rather spend their free time by themselves, and a vtuber is literally just another form of entertainment you can enjoy on your own or with others.

This is a very small sample size of the fans and you honestly wouldve had a better answer from people on reddit. Most of us enjoy vtubers because they have interesting personalities (some more than most streamers) and netflix or tv just isnt as fun or engaging.
