Alright, how about we kickstart the lore writing with a random worldbuilding topic of the day? Let's talk about clothes! Do your nations have any special garb reserved for important positions or events? How does your location impact the style and textiles used for clothing? What are the differences, if any, between men's and women's clothes? What about upper class versus lower class?

>> No.73888139

>>73887620
Lorelei has grass I guess. Though the island does not have any native settlers. The soil isn't that good for agriculture let alone textiles. Clothes are imported from other countries. The settlers tend to wear airy breathable clothes due to heat and humidity. Linen and cotton clothes are preferred over leather and wool. Though quilted cloth is worn by defense militias as some protection. That said defense militias look more like pirates than soldiers.

Ohmies live in the Phase Connect highlands and use spun wool and felt in much of their clothing. The wool collected from the electric sheep in their region is a particularly good electrical insulator, so their apparel is usually intended to prevent accidental electrical discharges from their internal batteries. People with greater control over their electricity are much less prone to such accidental discharges, so clothes intended for practiced electricity wizards will tend to cover less skin. Accordingly, people in position of political, cultural or financial power will often forgo the practicality of more insulating clothes, and use more revealing garments as a fashion statement evoking the power of the wizard class, even if it causes occasional mishaps.
Poorer people will most often have clothes made of mass-produced wool felt, while increasingly refined wools textiles are used by richer individuals, including wools dyed in a wide range of colors, or wools shorn from sheep specially bred for softness, smoothness, or insulating properties.

I wrote a bit about it here but basically /vnug/ clothes are usually made with a special fabric that’s probably made from a mixture of mineral and slime mycelium that allows it to have high resistance to heat (and cold) and the elements in general. It’s naturally white but /vnug/ likes to dye them in fabulous colors as fashion statements, with the common ones being black, red, purple, pink, blue, and white (roughly in order of popularity). Men and women basically dress the same way, while upper class tend to be able to afford adding more details to the clothes, ranging from finer fabric allowing things like frills and laces, and precious metal like gold and silver lines to magic-imbued fabric (ultimately plant-derived but also has a synthetic element). Green was seen as an unnatural color but recently interactions with the neighboring saplings have introduced more green and brown to the /vnug/ palette, especially in brushstroke camouflage patterns that see decent outdoor uses

/uuu/ has no shortage of wool or cotton, so standard fabric is common for clothes. Our lack of industry and mass manufacturing is slightly offset by the abundance of material and how much easier it is to process by natural means (cotton seeds are easier to remove from cotton buds, wool grows straighter, etc). Though our lack of metal tools (scissors, shears, etc), still make large pieces of cloth more uncommon.
As far as colors, most saplings will prefer to dye their clothes the colors of their surroundings. Woodland colors for the land saplings, and Seisis might have more green/blue hues.
A toga-like style is common among more elder saplings like Matres, but some also like to dress in leathers and furs of their naturally deceased woodland companions.
