I did stream irl and even posted YouTube videos but it was just hard for me to be myself and I was pretty camera shy so hopefully this can help me be more authentic. Hopefully this kinda explains my situation and I’m sorry if I came across like I was trying to exploit vtubing as I think this is a great opportunity for me to be my most authentic self and grow a authentic community. I respect the vtuber community and think it’s cool how far it has came. I am also somewhat worried of what my irl friends would think if they found out I was a vtuber. Life is crazy haha it’s hard not to worry about other peoples opinions. I’m confident in who I am, I eat healthy, workout daily, and don’t think im unattractive or anything. This was a thing from the start on Twitch, simply because most of the big indie vtubers of the early days, were flesh streamers before and just shifted to vtubing. There's still a ton of genuine indies out there, but Twitch's system means that unless they make some drama they will never get a huge number of eyes on them.
That one indie friend of Bijou is a good example.

As with all things, the audience reflects the streamer. But thanks to how twitch evolved from being a game streaming website (/v/ lite basically), being genuine might not get you that many eyes.

VOD watchers focus a lot on the content. So if someone makes a fun video, you watch it. Some people subscribe, hoping to get more interesting content in the same vein.
But no one can have hits 100% of the time.
So the ones that win the algo war are cheap spammable content so that one big hit offsets the other flops.

On the other hand, if you brand "yourself" as the content, whether it's your peculiar look, or vibe or humor or whatever it is, your content will ALWAYS have a bit of "You" in it. So every single one of your videos will have a baseline of quality that your core audience will like. Good examples are sseth, nakeyjakey, critical drinker and yahtzee.
Yahtzee's honestly the best example, dude literally went from big corpo to small corpo and lost barely ANY of his viewers despite changing several aspects of his usual aesthetic. The quality of the videos themselves may go up and down, but as long as that core "creator"'s brand is in the content, it will ALWAYS get views.

Content-centric branding is fickle a f, and will always have competition from others making the same content. Creator-centric branding is the future.
