Is the concept of a m*le mascot alongside a female character as cringe to other people as it is to me? Lore is cringe in general but I've always subconsciously attached my character to an old mahou shoujo RP I did so the potential has always been there.

I ask this because I've been working on yukkuri jikkyo style videos and have been debating whether it'd be worth it to have a secondary character to bounce the writing off of. The Marisa to my Reimu, essentially. I feel like there's some potential there, a lazy magical girl mascot getting way too invested into video games, and his uninvested magical girl bantering or asking questions.

That style of content is pretty rare in English though, I'm not sure what the actual palatability would be. Or if it would just be better to focus on crafting a singular persona a la most english lets players.

Here's what's been working for me. I make sure I acknowledge every new followers, subscriber, redeem, and chat, and actually talk to my chat. A significant number of the people are streamers and will later raid me, meaning that I end up with even more people to connect with.

There are five basic ways people find my channel: /vt/, friends, raids, my stream tags, and the game category. I also stream for as long as I can every day to snowball viewers who will leave my stream on in the background, and to snowball the gains from raids.

I have a Twitter account and a Discord and that's it. I reply to literally everyone who replies to me on Twitter, answer all DMs, and make sure to follow back people who heavily interact with me and, in turn, heavily interact with them. I use my Discord to ask for some tech support questions and for help with the games I stream that I may not know well, and to post the answers to the questions I find. So for instance, last night, I was streaming Project Zomboid, and nobody in chat knew the difference between soup and stew. I found the answer, I posted it in my Discord.

I made sure my raid settings allow anyone to raid me, regardless of account age. I think by minimum, the raids are limited to accounts older than 30 days to avoid trolls. The reality is, this restriction means that newer streamers who are posting on /vt/ would be unable to raid me, and I think the number of good actors outweighs the number of bad, and frankly, even if a raid is trollish...who cares? It's new viewers to meet and interact with, perpetuating the cycle I listed in the first paragraph.

My final tip is to make sure to not just take, but contribute. Post in threads and offer advice to others, to gain a reputation as a community member, not just as a shiller. I don't know who you are or what you post, but contributions can be things as simple as giving people constructive solicited criticism on their reference sheets. Check out the variety of threads the board has to offer and see which communities you are applicable to join. I'm eligible for /asp/, /wasp/, /freak/, /hag/, and /here/, so that's where I post.

Important caveats to mention: part of my appeal is sexual, and I'm not sure how important that is, but, I am an Asian-American hag IRL, and people have said they really like my voice. I am a relatively lewd vtuber, although I don't know if I count as a lewdtuber, as the flirting I do with the audience happens maybe once every 10-20 minutes, usually in exchange for redeems. The age of 30 does seem to indeed be in high demand, and my character is very busty, but, I literally made her in VRoid after only playing around in VRoid for about 2 weeks. She literally only uses the default assets available. People have politely told me that my model is not what keeps them coming back to my channel. My gameplay style is also very calm and quiet, so people have told me they put my stream on and fall asleep to it. A good number of people have told me that they keep me on in the background at work as radio, so again, they're not as much 'viewers' as they are listeners.

I hope this was somewhat helpful. Basically, if you want to connect with people, on your end, you need to actually connect with them too. 'The phone works both ways,' essentially. The way you interact with people should follow both standard professional networking practices, as well as fit your character.

Games are obvious pulls as well! play something more niche and you'll get people in that game raid you! play the flavour of the month game (not necessarilly collab games) and you might get raids for this game! Keep in mind tho if it's a raider that hyper focuses in that game, the raid prolly won't help too much if you don't actively play that specific game as well. Rezuul raided me once when I played mahjong, and I doubt I ever managed to pull any of these viewers back because I just never actively play mahjong. If you really like a game and play it a lot tho, they'll prolly come back to you!

The issue more or less have so far is, I am kind of a revolving door with people coming in, greeting and chatting a bit and then leaving before the next batch of vtubers arrive to check me out! That is however more or a time-issue now, as my stream time kinda corresponds to either american morning time/job hours or european afternoon past job time!

something else I have to add, just by being very active in other chubas chats, I got a lot of high 2-view and even 3-view actively watching me or mentioning me positively during their streams if it comes up. A lot of their viewers also know me at times and occasionally hop on in on my if they happen to catch me because of it. Heck, I think one of them actually made a chuber raid me at some point.

so yeah, you will not become a 50-ccv fuck just by networking, but getting your name out and meeting a couple peeps you can vibe with is definitely gonna help in the long run!
