It's a shame, because I really do think that EN has the potential to stand toe-to-toe with JP, but I'm not sure if that ship has sailed or not. Seeing Pekora get nearly 200k CCV the other day really put things into perspective for me: there isn't a single talent in EN that has that degree of draw or hype - no, not even Gura. Which is frustrating, because Gura herself has shown that when ENs really try, we're fucking #1.

EN really needs its own Salome moment. Some super mega star that can bring viewers, a miracle gen, something. Idk, Advent wasn't it.

Prime Gura used to get that much during her karaokes. Which is insane because I don't think a Holo has ever reached 6view with just a normal content stream outside of Pekora's palworld return stream IIRC.

Well, yes, but no. If there's one thing about internet viewership, it's that it can always be clawed back. It just requires innovation. A unique personality. I like to think of vtubing akin to wrestling: most superstars are whatever, but every once in a while there'll debut this electrifying talent that's this perfect marriage of aesthetic, charisma, and ring presence that everyone can't help but be taken by. This was Gura for a while. It can happen again.

What I do know is that you won't find success by merely following the canons of current vtubing culture. This shit is getting a touch too generic - too grift-y - and now that normies have long since infiltrated this hobby, it might be high time I start looking for my next autismo fixation. The lockdowns created a short bubble for HoloEN which gave them a huge boost. That won't happen again because the EN vtuber market is now saturated and most of the initial hype is gone. They can still bring in new viewers but it will be a gradual increase.
