It's the single most complete and accomplished trilogy of all time, but I think you could argue other standalone films beat each of the individual films in the trilogy.

It is funny seeing how much LOTR has grown even more in the past decades in terms of its reputation though, I remember at the time everyone thought they were great but it didn't really steer all the way into a favorite for "greatest of all time" conversations like it does now.
