It kind of evolved from an earlier concept that was Yin/yang themed but then as I developed my content I leaned into the vibes/theming that was close to my content/character vibes. And I made sure to keep key character features from the original design I had started with. (simple self made vroid) Plus clothes I could see myself being comfy wearing.

I was very rushed in making my design, I got clothes and hair references I liked and the general color schemes then sent those to someone to make the reference for my 3D model.
I made sure the reference artist had previously worked with the 3D model maker so I knew the styles would go well together.

Things like eye shape, eye color, hair color, hair style and length can already communicate a lot about a character even if it's simple. Keep in mind most people are only going to see the upper part of your design.

To be honest, sometimes I feel like anime characters all look the same and the main difference about them is the hair. I have big list of characters I like but basically they are extremely different all of them. If I mashed up all my fav characters it would be a rainbow clusterfuck.

Absolutely no idea. I have changed the hair colour a couple of times and everytime I am like "it looks like i am stealing someone's else character" or "it looks like absolute shit no matter how i change the tone around this colour".

My personality is just me. I'm chaotic. I'm a nerd. I just do stuff and say stuff without thinking at all. I have autism and bpd.

That's also a problem, as most of the stuff that I thought could be cool is unseen from my character as it is covered by the clothes or isn't in a visible place, like the face. I thought of getting it facial markings but now it looks like a copyright notice and also I don't really fully think it looks okay.

Or it looks like shit or it looks like I'm stealing someone's else design as it gets too close to what I'm using as a reference. In general, nothing works.

Your're always going to be compared to other people. There is a very limited amount of originality in the vtubing community because of the sheer number of them being created. If you like a hair style or outfit design, then use it. There can always be tweaks to it to make it your own, but the important part is to pick something you like. Want to be a soldier girl? Be one. Think it's too similar to mumei? Then stick with the basic look of a solider girl but tweak the colors, add in accessories or additions to the design to make it your own. ie, a stripe of color along the arms or the hem of the coat, a bandana around the neck or wrapped around a wrist, goggles/sunglasses something covering the mouth. The world is yours. As long as you get out of the mindset of 'i can't do this it will look like that' because who gives a shit.

Try using picrews to get a base idea down. They won't always look the best and are limited, but that's expected of picrews. Just use them for playing around and seeing what works.
Also try not to worry about "copying" someone else. Most people won't notice or care as long as you don't look exactly like that person.
