They are haram, in Islam image making is generally haram. Vtuber models are just that, computer generated images.
So if you are an adult, watching vtuber is haram for you.
There is a exception for children tho. For them those images can halal, as long as those images are not in the form of humans, nor use music. Which means that even for children, vtubers are haram.

It goes beyond copying apocrypha texts. In its original for the Quran was just a collection of texts (which included apocryphas). Its purpose was to be used as back up material together with the Bible to bring a form of non Trinitarian Christianity to the arabs.
These collections of texts became very popular among Arabs and were called Quran. Just like the jews had the Torah and the Christians the Bible, for the Arabs these corollaries became their own "revelation", part of their identity.
But things changed radically when the abbasids reached power. The abbasids radically subverted the arab culture as a mean to consolidate power, one of the ways to achieve this was by elevating this "Quran" to a thing of its own, independant from the jewish and christian books, which would cut their influence through religion in the arabs.
So how did they achieve this? Through the creation of "arabic". The "Quran" was originally in syriac, through the introduction of diacritical marks, using the syriac alphabet as base, the abbasids created "arabic". In this way it was possible for them to introduce seemingly "minor" changes in the Quran, but which completely changed the meaning of words. Enforcing the new language and the approved Quran became priority under death penalty. Everything before them should be destroyed (sounds familiar). This way they managed to consolidate the arab identity as separate from christianity and judaism, which back then was basic to form your own empire.
This is the reason why in many cases (surahs) the Quran alone makes little sense and requires of back up texts (hadiths) to "correctly" understand what it is describing.
Yet hidden inside the Quran, christian preachings still survive. By removing the diacritical marks in some surahs, it is still possible to find the original christian text in syriac.

Arabic is arabic, and any arab today can read ancient arabic poems and explain to you what they mean (in a general sense) arabic has barely changed from the 600s AD, the change is equivalent to that of english between 1700s and 2000s.
Here is what most likely happened based on historic evidence:
1- mohammed dies
2- a couple years pass and as things do, false texts begin appearing
3- the third caliph decides to gather all "true" pieces of the quran ("the word meaning that which was read" meaning to muhammed by gabriel).
4- that version becomes the only acceptable version of the quran.

The quran was never in syriac idiot, the arabs didnt speak syriac.
