I want this picrel aesthetic for the /uuu/ boat 100%. The bio mesh of roots and tentacles is going to take some work though. Also, what would happen to the tendrils in shallower waters. Would they be more like tentacles or roots? Is there a good way to mix both? Maybe split the difference and go eukaryotic? Are there even underwater mushrooms?
Lots to think about

Huh, that's more of a rabbithole than I expected, seems like a very under-researched topic. There are tons of marine fungi, but it seems like mushrooms with a large macrostructure (stem and cap) aren't much of a thing, they seem to mostly occur as molds growing on algae, seagrass, coral and lichens.
Could be fun if the rootentacles were able to act as anchors in shallow waters, and maybe dig themselves into the soil for extra nutrients

>> No.72002967

I guess I can use inns as a worldbuilding topic. I like visiting a good old-fashioned inn over a modern hotel. But then again hotels today have baths and sometimes a kitchenette. Inns and boarding houses sometimes just have a single room with beds to sleep in.

I think Lorelei's inns would be made out of either wood or bamboo/rattan. Unless we can build a ruin back into an inn. I can see the inn being made out of half basaltic stone bricks and half wood with a slate roof. The inn can double as a pub because they would share the same ovens, fires, and store rooms between buildings. The pup would be more like an outside cantina with a thatch roof and polished quartz countertops. The inns bedrooms would be plankwood sealed by plaster and clay to stave off the heat. Bedrooms would have a Japanese style hearth with a hanging fire over sand for a little heat at night and to boil kettles for morning coffee. Inn would only be one floor due to the height of the island. It's pretty high above sea level and typhoon winds wiped out the second floor a long time ago methinks.

Not out of tribalism, just how the fanbases worked out. /choc/ is heavy into small western indies, /pink/ is a bit more corpo and JP, /hag/ is pretty holo-heavy, though none of the three are exclusive to those categories. I guess because of numbers threads will baseline trend toward holo if nothing else gains a foothold though.

The biggest unclaimed regions of that climate are a) the tropical islands around the western continent and b) the large island next to /fig/, which are both also islands so also fit the shopgirl theme. I would lean towards the former because then there's more space for the other Phase-related threads that have emerged in recent times (/lia/, /pcgia/, /fvr/, /tsunX/, to some degree /tactical/ too), but I think there's a few other Phase anons around in the thread so I'll leave that open to comment.

Yes, those just go to your Core Driver stats. I'll update the text in the next update to make sure this is clearer, in addition to fixing the stat descriptors.

Multiplicative bonuses first, then additive. It's easier to explain PEMDAS than to give players Slightly Bigger Number.

It is okay to have stats at 0.
Formula for Drive calculation, including advantages, is:
>( ( ( ( Rank * 25 ) + DUR + PRE ) * ( 1 + ( % Bonus ) ) ) + Flat Bonus )
It is not possible to have multiple % Bonuses to Base Drive simultaneously, so you shouldn't need to stress that too much.

well Im glad I didnt keep trying to sort this out blind while you werent here cuz this is much different
>( ( ( ( Rank * 25 ) + DUR + PRE ) * ( 1 + ( % Bonus ) ) ) + Flat Bonus )
that doesnt really make sense unless you meant
>(Rank * Drive)
or does base drive literally never change from 25? I couldve sworn i saw something in there that did change it
picrel is my calculation for any drive BEFORE any advantages get calculated (advantages to Drive. advantages to base dur or base pre would still get applied here)
>Flat Bonus
what does this refer to?
you refer to "Base Drive" drive in the doc a lot but assumed that meant "Drive before the rank mult and dur and pre mods"

>> No.72141897

>>72140418
You start at Rank 1, which gives you 25.
Each Rank up gives 25 Drive.
>(Rank * 25)
Is just an expression of that.
"Flat bonus" is the bonus from advantages like Durable Drive (which provide a flat value that is based on a Core stat, instead of a % bonus to Base Drive like the Dedicated advantage), or bonuses from Installs (which don't exist yet to my recollection, but I know I've accounted for them in the design space).
>What is Base Drive
That's the value that your Drive starts at, and what it defaults to when you recover from being Broken. Think of it like your Max HP, but your Current HP can go above or below it depending on what's going on in the turn.

>> No.72143007

So does Dedicated add 50% to the 25 or does it go in that "( % Bonus )" place you posted?

>> No.72143216

>>72143007
It goes into the % Bonus.
So a Rank 3 Driver with 4 PRE and 3 DUR with Dedicated active would have
>( ( ( ( 3 * 25 ) + 3 + 4 ) * ( 1 + ( 0.5 ) ) ) + 0 ) = 123 Base Drive

>> No.72143568

>>72143216
ok then thats not what the doc says because
>increase your Base Drive by 50%
but then you said
>That's the value that your Drive starts at, and what it defaults to when you recover from being Broken
but then in this
>( ( ( ( Rank * 25 ) + DUR + PRE ) * ( 1 + ( % Bonus ) ) ) + Flat Bonus )
it would mean that Base Drive refers to Drive AFTER the rank multiplier and dur and pre mods have been calculated
am I getting that right?

NTA but I'm following your formula. I got 123 as the answer but it's pretty hard for me to follow the extra parentheses. I think I got it right though.

Order of operations as I interpret it:
3 * 25 = 75
75 + 3 + 4 = 82
1 + 0.5 = 1.5
1.5 + 0 = 1.5
82 + 1.5 = 123

I think that's right. I'm used to tabletop being simpler like a basic melee attack is 1d20 + Base Class Attack + STR or DEX + Weapon Bonus + Feat + Misc. Modifiers vs Target AC.

The Miscelaneous Modifiers are things like magic spell buffs and curcumstance bonuses like flanking. And the variables can easily be negatives that subtract from the formula. Reminds me of calculating stats for JRPG games.

Basically I chatted with the rest of /pcg/ to come up with the basic idea of the country. Coffee-focus is a an absolute must, but I didn't get too concerned about being tropical, since it's very plausible to have fictional coffee species that grow at a different climate. Also, I felt like since we have very active "diplomacy" with the rest of /vt/, we probably wouldn't be relatively isolated on an island, since most interactions happen over land borders... Do you think that makes sense? We definitely would want to be in a position to have naval shenanigans, though.
Now that /jidf/ has been placed, that southern location would have the fun factor of putting us next to a fellow small corpo with a few Phase friends, so that could be nice.
I've been wanting to nail it down a bit more but I've been dedicating my /pcg/ OC time to trying to draw Clara...

Thank you for your reply, anon. The area I was thinking of was the one here, it consists of islands but I wouldn't really consider it isolated because they're right next to the large western continent.
Aside from the biomes, my reasoning was also in part that the eastern continent already has many large Holo threads, while most of the threads that /pcg/ interacts with (like /lia/, /pcgia/, /fvr/, /tsunX/, /tactical/ and some others) hadn't been placed yet, so I figured there was space for them on that continent. There being a lot of different islands that would interact with each other maritimely could be used for Harine shipgirl theming, maybe even a large maritime coffee-trading company a bit like the East India Company. Some of the larger islands could be different threads, and then smaller ones could be used to represent different Phase friends/"orbiters".
Out of the threads that *have* been placed, the only one that interacts much with /pcg/ is /jidf/, so out of the regions you suggested I do suppose the one close to /jidf/ would make the most sense, or maybe the peninsula on the right-hand side of your circle since that seems to have a wetter climate.

Here's some more brainstorming. Aside from /pcg/, I'm also familiar with the Phase-adjacent threads /tactical/ and /fvr/. I think it would make sense for /tactical/ to be close to /pcg/ because of Sleepy, Nyaru and Rye interacting with them, and also to /choc/ because Nyaru is discussed in both threads (and is /here/ to the extent that she supported both their divegrass teams on stream this month). That would fit with my western continent proposal, as /tactical/ could be the northern large island in the ellipse I drew while the other Phase threads could be the more southerly islands, which would put /tactical/ close to the /choc/ island to the northeast as well.
On the other hand, I suppose /tactical/ could also fit with your eastern continent proposal because they have a (somewhat tumultuous) connection to /jidf/ through the Rye/Yuko situation, so I could also see /tactical/ in a place that borders both /pcg/ and /jidf/.
For /fvr/, I would think of it as a "colony" originally established by the /pcg/ nation that is now independent, so I would put it in a location that is easily accessible from the /pcg/ nation by sea but not immediately adjacent to it by land. That would work well with the western islands; it would be a bit more tricky with the eastern location next to /jidf/ but could maybe be made to work with the islands to the east of the continent.

This might be an autistic geographical anthropology tidbit, but based on how insular island countries like Japan, Great Britain and Madagascar were from their relatively close adjoining continents, I think that'd still be a factor. But I think your proposal has a portion on the mainland, so that'd be good! I like your thought with /tactical/ too. I guess it'll be difficult to engineer the perfect diplomatic contacts on a map where every country is placed by an anon with his own thought process, can't have both /choc/ and /jidf/.
If we went for the Eastern continent proposal, I guess those islands in picrel could work for /fvr/?
In the end, if I wasn't so indecisive about it I would have picked a while ago, so I'd say we go for the one you prefer!

>based on how insular island countries like Japan, Great Britain and Madagascar were from their relatively close adjoining continents
I was thinking more of Southeast Asia (huh), another tropical region with a lot of islands where there is a lot of cultural interaction between the different islands and between the islands and the main continent. Even for some of your examples like Great Britain you had the Anglo-Saxons, the Danelaw, the Normans, the Hundred Years War, etc.
But your points are valid too, I'll think about it for a bit and see if I can find ways to tie in connections to /lia/, /pcgia/ and /tsunX/ for either proposal. My lore fragments for those would be that part of /pcgia/'s territory once belonged to a Cyberlive nation that no longer exists, and that /tsunX/ is a nation that formed a diplomatic alliance or maybe some sort of dynastic union with /pcg/ due to its own economy struggling to survive.

>Great Britain you had the Anglo-Saxons, the Danelaw, the Normans, the Hundred Years War
Very true, on the Japanese side there's also the various Korean wars. I think maybe those events (mostly "invasions" of some sort) got their renown in part from being deviations from the norm, but also it shows it could definitely happen.
Okay, sounds good! /tsunX/ had very storied lore in the past, so I'm excited for what we come up with for them this time.

I think it's more that the island nations happen to be more well-known during their insular (heh) period. England/UK was no less involved in European affairs until relatively recently (from them being kicked out of France to after the Napoleonic Wars depending on who you ask) but they still like to pretend they're in the middle of the Atlantic instead of 20 miles off France. Japan also had periods of trade with other countries from China to SEA, and even during their isolationist period they still maintained some degree of interaction with the Chinese and the Dutch. Ultimately I would say while being on islands help enforcing isolationism, insular countries being isolationist are mostly caused by political reasons rather than something inherent in being on islands

Good points all, I think technology is probably a big part of it too. You're pretty cut off from the rest of the world in Japan in the early medieval, but by the late medieval naval travel over those distances is a lot more common, which is probably why that's when a lot of that physical isolation is eroded; after that isolationism goes from being geographical to political I think.
