Reading through the wiki, Japs were introduced to hanzi c. 100AD, but only started to really adopt them around 700 AD, which roughly checks out with when the standard script was used, and it is remarkably similar to how current kanji are written, at least from the e samples provided. Obviously readings changed, kana were added, and probably some alterations were made, but that script is the closest to modern kanji in your image.
